Borderline low amniotic fluid

anyone else been told they have this problem? I'm currently 32 weeks and at 29 weeks I had my glucose test & a routine ultrasound. The sonographer said my fluid levels were normal. Well my doctor tells me to make sure I'm drinking 64 ounces of water a day etc..
Yesterday I had my routine OB appointment and he asks me how my water intake has been going and I told him I've been doing pretty good with it. I asked again if my levels were low or something and he said "they were borderline" and he wants to do a follow up ultrasound at my next appointment to see how my levels look after a month total of increased water intake. I should've asked what the level actually was to see how borderline it really was. My dr is very anal so I wonder if he is just making me paranoid. I am doing well with my water intake regardless.
He wants my levels to increase now since they typically drop some closer to 40 weeks.

Anyone else with this problem?

Re: Borderline low amniotic fluid

  • This has never happened ever. And even if it had, nobody gives a single fuck. So go away.

  • I had low amniotic fluid with my first child. I was further along though, 39 weeks, and they were going to induce me the very next morning but I went into labor myself. I guess just constantly be chugging water all day?

No, I haven't had that happen. I know it sucks but honestly it sounds like it's just going to be one of wait and see situations, just do what the doctor has told you to do and don't be afraid to push for the answers you need at your next visit. :)
  • I can only speak for myself, but at 36 weeks I was complaining of contractions, and was admitted to L&D. When they did the u/s, they told me straight up it was borderline low, and talked to my OB's and agreed to have weekly NST's and AFI's up until I delivered. My last NST and AFI was when I was 40 weeks, 6 days, and admitted me 10 minutes later for an induction since it was way too low. I had DD the next day.

Its common for fluid to decrease from 36-40 weeks, but if their concerned about your fluid levels now, then I would suggest taking your OB's advice. It doesn't hurt to be precautionary. I had a AFI at 32 weeks for this baby, just to be on the safe side.
