40 & First Time Mom

After a year of infertility treatments in my 20's I accepted the fact I would probably never have a child. I just married the love of my life last year, turned 40 and now with no assistance we are having a baby! I feel like I don't have a clue as to what I'm doing? I need to slow down which has been pretty easy to do from exhaustion but all the other do's and don'ts? It's going to be a long 9 months!

Re: 40 & First Time Mom

  • Congrats! Very exciting. Read some good books like mayo clinic guide and others mentioned in a previous thread.

  • Congratulations and relax--- you have plenty of time to figure things out!  Don't worry you don't have to know everything about childrearing day 1!  Just ask lots of questions (especially of your Dr!) and read what you can (preferably from reputable sources).

  • Congrats!!!! I'm 38 and a FTM also. I downloaded the Mayo Clinic book to my Kindle and it has been a great resource.
  • Congrats! And you have lots of time to learn what you need, and as you go. I learned so much on the bump boards with my first pregnancy. So many women in one place due the same time, sharing what they learn. I had never heard of Baby Led Weaning or No Cry Sleep Solution before they were discussed on the boards-both were fabulous discoveries for me!

  • Congrats! FTM here too, 40 & expecting twins!
  • Congrats! Do you have a good support system of friends who have been through it? If not, find a local mom's group. They have been my rock with my first one.

  • Congrats! One of my fav pregnancy books is "the girlfriend's guide to pregnancy." Fun to read but also informative!
