TTC after 35

Possible that my OPK + spotting were wrong?

Hello everyone. I'm new here, but I've been following along a little bit so I don't think my question is completely "newb"...

I recently went off the pill. I'm totally aware that it can take a few months to get regular cycles. However, I used a OPK (Clearblue Digital) and it said my first "peak" day was 12/31. On the same day, I happened to get some spotting. Now, I'm aware that spotting can happen for a number of reasons, and I also thought the "peak" day came kind of early (day 9 of my cycle), but since I got that reading AND spotting on the same day, I was convinced that these were good indications that I was ovulating.

Now it is roughly 20 days after I thought I ovulated, and I haven't gotten my period or a positive HPT. I did have some VERY faint spotting on 1/15, which was roughly 15 days after I ovulated--so faint it's unlikely it was a period.

I'm a little lost now because I don't even know what part of my cycle I'm in now. Is it possible that the OPK was wrong? It's only been 29 days since my last period, so if I hadn't tracked ovulation, I wouldn't think this was strange at all.

  • Thanks!

One more detail I thought I'd throw out there--around 1/16-1/17 my breasts were really tender. I've never experienced this before (maybe because I was on the pill for so long), so I thought for sure I'd be getting my period soon (or maybe a BFP). But now the breast tenderness is over, and still no period!

The more I read, it does sound I should track temp.

  • Is recommend temping as well. It'll definitely help give a more clear picture

  • Along with temping, lots of people here use Wondfos opks. They are very inexpensive and available on Amazon. It seems like there are often complaints about the CB digitals.
  • Everyone has given you great advice so far. Also, OPKs will tell you your body is getting ready to ovulate but not if you did. It is possible to have multiple LH surges. These usually lead to delayed ovulation, usually by a week or so. If you go 60 days without a period or a positive HPT then call your doctor. Good luck!
