Transitioning to the crib

Hey everyone! I need help. My daughter is 10 weeks old and since 3 weeks she has slept in a rock n play in her room. We are wanting to move her to her crib. We figure she is already in her room so she might as well be in the crib and when she goes to daycare she will nap in a crib. Any suggestions? We have been trying getting her to sleep and moving her to the crib at night and naps. She last half hour max! She will sleep 10 hours in her rock n play at night. I am guilty of trying to get her to sleep in the crib for a few hours each night and then giving up and putting her in the rock n play.

Re: Transitioning to the crib

  • Sorry I'm of no help! I can't even get LO into the rock n play! Good luck and maybe start with daytime naps in the crib before transitioning at night? Best of luck!

  • Naps are a good way to start. The open space might be scaring her a little, so it sometimes takes time for them to get used to it. I had to put my DD in her crib and rub her back for a while to get her to settle, then if she woke up a little later I would hear it on the monitor and go rub her back again to settle her back down and let her know I'm there. (She sleeps on her tummy because she wasn't sleeping at all on her back, yep I'm one of those people.) Also they usually have a sleep cycle and it could be that she is finishing one and just realizing the new space which can be scary. After a week of naps were I had to go in and rub her back to prolong them she seemed to take to the crib better. From there it wasn't so hard for her to start sleeping in it at night. DD goes for a 7 hour stretch at the beginning and then 1-3 hours there after. She also puts herself to sleep most of the time now which is the coolest thing ever.

We are in the same place, my LO has slept in her bassinet in our room since she was born. She will be 3 months next week so we want to move her into her crib at nights too. For the past 2-3 weeks I have been putting her in her crib for all naps and she is doing fine napping in there, so I agree with the other posters that this is probably the best thing to try. I go back to work next week and am hoping to have her in her crib at night by then, so we'll see how it goes. She's got to move soon though, she is outgrowing her bassinet!
