im having my third by repeat csection on jan 30th and the past two days I've been developing a cold.

Now I'm hoping it will be gone by then but what if it's not??? Will they still do my csection??? I'm afraid to ask at my Drs appointment today, but of course will.

Anyone know?

Re: Sick before csection?!?!?

  • Odds are if you are sick enough they will postpone it. But then again it depends on many things - like why you are having a csection in the first place (benefits of getting baby out vs risks of you having a cold).

Then why are you asking for medical advice on a public forum to random strangers? Perhaps I misinterpreted the "Anyone know?" at the end of your post. We are not doctors. We can't tell you whether or not a doctor, or even more specifically your doctor, will perform a c-section while you are sick. This question is more appropriately posed to your doctor. Good luck.

I took it to mean if anyone had this scenario.  Regardless, I had a "cold" in advance of another surgery I had a few years ago and they were only planning to reschedule if i developed a fever.  so definitely a worthwhile question but you might be ok especially if there is a risk they don't want u going into labor.

That is exactly what I meant. I would never ask for medical advice on the Internet or even take what Internet people had to say as what I should do. I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same situation before and what happened with them out of curiosity while I waited for my appointment.

I did ask my doctor at my appointment today which was always my plan and he said as long as I don't have a fever it's a go.

  • I started coming down with a cold the day before my RCS last time around. My doctor said they would postpone it if I developed a fever but I did not. It actually never progressed beyond that stage, probably due to the antibiotics I received following the section (my hospital routinely give a couple rounds of antibiotics via IV to prevent infection).

  • @mamabisme thanks! My hospital does the same with the antibiotics in the IV so that's a bonus. Hopefully I won't get past this stuffy nose and very mild sore throat before then and it will just go away.
