sitting up in crib

We used the Ferber method to sleep train our 9 month old a few months ago, and he did great. So when he'd wake up in the middle of the night, we could go in and soothe him, and he'd be back asleep in 15-20 minutes every time. Well now little man has learned to sit up from laying down, and just screams and cries instead of putting himself back to sleep. When we go in to soothe we try to lay him back down, but he gets even more mad, then sits back up as soon as we leave. The past 2 nights I've given up and nursed him back to sleep after about an hour or so of unsuccessful soothing, but I need to stop that asap. Any advice? Thanks mamas :)

Re: sitting up in crib

  • No advice - Liam also doesn't know how to lay himself down from sitting (or standing).

  • See mine does know how...that's why I'm not sure what to do. Just let him keep crying? Will he eventually remember he has to lay to sleep?
  • This is a phase. Wait it out.
  • Either wait it out, or let him cry. When we finally did sleep training with DD she was already standing in her crib. The first night she fell asleep sitting up and fell over and stayed asleep. After that she did much better with laying herself down. Even just last night she stood up around 11 and cried for maybe two minutes then laid herself back down. They get there, it's just another thing to piece together.
  • @janellemj928‌ I know I shouldn't but I cried so hard reading that imagining your daughter falling asleep and falling.... I know I'm so bad but it sounds to funny

  • Mine ends us face planting and falling asleep that way. She was never a belly sleeper until we transitioned her to the crib. Now that's the only way she sleeps.

Trust me, we got a good laugh out of watching her on the video monitor! She just kept head bobbing and eventually one of the bobs took her down. Thankfully it was onto the mattress and not into the side of the crib!
