Similac liquid formula

I'm using similac ready to feed (liquid) formula for my 3 month old. I BF during the day and use formula at night. The bottles say to use within 3 days of opening, but there's no way I can use a whole bottle within 3 days. Anyone have experience with this? How much beyond 3 days, if any, can I go?

I would use the 8oz and not tempt fate trying to make the 32oz last longer than indicated. I can't fathom a few dollars being worth the risk.

  • I think there is a risk of bacteria forming past three days. Could you use powder or the smaller bottles instead? Similac will also send you coupons if you register online which might make the smaller bottles cheaper for you.

    This.

i agree about checking the 8 oz bottles or try powder. I know powder is more work but for overnight we pour water into 3 bottles and put the bottle together. Then measure out the amount for each in a 3 segment formula travel container. Just dump the powder in, shake and ready to go and it prob takes an extra minute overnight per bottle. Just sharing this tip in case it helps.

This is what we always did. DS slept in a bassinet next to my bed, everything would be on my nightstand so I didn't even have to get out of bed. Sounds better and easier to me than going all the way to the kitchen and getting it out of the fridge and then possibly having to warm it.

DD absolutely hates the powder. I wish she would drink it.

Isn't that funny cause DS refuses the premade! We had tons of the 2oz bottles when he was newborn and he wouldn't drink them. It looks different it must taste different too.

    Agreed^^

@rkisty‌ My DD can only have the Similac ready to feeds! She refuses powder and spits it all up!
I made sure to do my math cause formula is too damn expensive!
I would assume prices are pretty universal, but I buy my formula at BRU because it's the cheapest in my area. A case of 24-8oz bottles at $44.95 vs. a case of 6-32oz at $47.95.
Either way you get a total of 192oz.
So I buy the 8oz bottles.
Right now BRU has a Buy 2 Cases of RTF Similac, get $10 off! I have similac vendor coupons so I'm stocking up!
  • Awesome! Thanks for all the advice. I've never actually seen the 8oz bottles.. Only the 2 oz bottles, which are $11 for 8, which is essentially only 3 feelings for us... Way too much. I will have to look for them. I ended up using the 32 oz bottle on day 4 with no problems but threw away the rest. We also have powder, but she didn't really like it the first time we gave it to her. I will have to try it again. Thanks again!
  • @rkisty‌ the only place I can find the cases of 8oz bottles is at BRU/TRU.
And I can usually find the smaller boxes of the 6-8oz rtf bottles at Target for about $12!
    Good luck!!
