Re: second and third trimester discussion

  • Everything is good and i am still pregnant.

I spent this morning in L&D. I have very bad swelling but no other symptoms of pre-e. For those that don't know, I have a below knee amputation and my swelling is getting so bad that it's very difficult to put on my prosthesis :( everything looks great. Baby is head down, good heartbeat, and never stopped moving the entire time I was being monitored - the nurse had to keep readjusting the Doppler thingy. I have plenty of amniotic fluid and had the most visually clear u/s that I have had so far. Baby looks exactly like my son. Still Team Green, too!

This is how things started with my son - out of control swelling led to a c-section at 36w5days. I was told not to eat out (which I haven't this year) or eat processed foods, which I do a couple of times per week, but not.excessively, so we will see what happens.

I have one scheduled for 2/17 but I think it will be moved up, maybe it's just wishful thinking, though.

  • @footprint glad to hear baby is doing well.  Hoping they move things up for you.

As for me... I'm just ready to hold my sweet baby.  I've recently started swelling around my fingers and ankles, and I hate it... It's not really bad, it's just annoying.  I had to take off my wedding ring last night because I knew if I didn't, I'd have problems getting it off later...

I go back to the doc on Thursday to see if I've made any progress, and then if he doesn't come on his own, we'll induce the following Thursday (1/29).  I'm really hoping he'll come on his own - I'm seriously considering trying to go med-free this time around, and I've heard labor is much easier when the water bag is intact.  I realize it could break on it's own, which is ok, but I know if they induce that will be the first thing they do... At the end of the day, I really just want my baby to be outside already...

I've got 12 meals frozen for when baby arrives so I don't have to do as much cooking - most of them just involve thawing the day before and then putting in the crock pot all day.  I still have so much on my to-do list, but absolutely zero energy to do any of it... Maybe I'll get a nesting energy kick soon!

  • Hi all! I hope you don't mind me stopping in with a potentially silly question. For those of you that are STM+ or FTMs that took childbirth classes, do you think it was worth it or a waste of money? I called today to schedule a tour of L&D and they suggested the classes.. They go over all policies and procedures for the hospital and everything that happens from when you call the hospital until you leave, plus baby basics like swaddling, nail clipping, cord care etc. I wasn't planning on taking classes but after talking to her, I feel totally unprepared for LOs arrival! Classes are once a week from 6:30-9:30 for 4 weeks.

  • My acid reflux started to get pretty bad toward the end of this last week. I developed a nasty wheezy cough (probably from the acid). Today I was able to get in to see the doctor and she diagnosed me with bronchitis. I'm on a five day course of azithromycin. If stomach acid caused the bronchitis, I'm not sure how effective this will be, but hopefully it does the trick. The antibiotics are giving me diarrhea (I had to take a double dose today), hopefully that stops when the dose is halved. Between the barking cough attacks, and the diarrhea I'm feeling pretty lousy. Has anyone else dealt with acid related coughing, or bronchitis during their pregnancy?

  • Thank you all for the well wishes. All of our u/s have been medically great, but we haven't seen any good images (which I know isn't the point of a u/s). Today I saw this clear face and it was awesome.

@smcniff‌ I did have a moment today where.I thought, I could find out and just not tell anyone. But then I thought, wait, I am the biggest proponent of Tram Green, why am I selling myself out?

@MoreThanSparrows08‌ my nesting instinct left around 28 weeks. It's awesome you have all those meals ready! Fx you go into labor on your own!

@blueyedgirl26 honestly don't know whether or not to recommend clases. 12 hours seems excessive to me. I guess knowing your hospital procedure and policies would/could be helpful. But with the internet, do you really need someone to teach you this stuff? Also, you have PAL people you can reach out to. When I was 19, I was my BFF's birthing coach and we had to take a Lamaze/parenting class. I learned a lot in the Lamaze part and the physiology/physicality (is that the right word?) Of the birthing process for mom and baby, but a lot of it seemed like common sense. I wouldn't take the class, but I am lazy and don't want to be out of the house at 9.30 at night.

  • @footprint I was thinking 12 hours was excessive too. I would be leaving for work at 7am and not getting home from the classes until 9:30pm, which is right around bedtime haha. DH thinks we can figure things out on our own but said he's willing to go if I want to. I think you're probably right in saying that a lot of it is common sense. I'm sorry you're dealing with swelling, but glad to hear LO is doing Ok!
@Megdowntheshore‌ thanks! I didn't think to look elsewhere besides the hospital. Infant CPR was on my list of things to look into too. Let me know how it goes if you decide to take it at BRU.

I know this is prob normal but I feel like I'm gonna rip something down there or really hurt myself. Anyone experience this?

  • @creechmommy Sounds like round ligament pain to me.  With my first, it went away mid-2nd tri, and I didn't notice it at all with my 2nd, but with this one, it's been around for quite a while and hasn't gone away.  Every time I roll over in bed, they pull and stretch and sometimes cramp.  I haven't found anything that makes them go away, yet, either... Sorry I'm not of more help.  If it gets abnormally painful, I would definitely talk to your doc, though.

  • CreechMommy I agree with MoreThanSparrows08. I've had some round ligament pain that sounds like what you are describing. I usually get it when standing up after sitting for awhile. I find it is less severe if I change positions more slowly. Sleeping with a Snoogle has also helped me because it cradles my belly.

  • Hi ladies!

17 weeks tomorrow and still dealing with morning sickness...ugh! Anatomy scan is the 28th and I'm so excited to see this baby!

I've been having a hell of a time sleeping comfortably lately. I've tried a body pillow and regular pillows in different positions and I just can't get comfortable. I'm constantly rolling from side to side and probably driving DH crazy. I don't know what else to try.

@footprint‌ I'm glad that baby is looking good. I would think that they would love the c-section date up, 2/17 is a long way away.

@MoreThanSparrows08‌ lots of vibes that labor starts soon and you can meet you sweet baby!

@BluEyedGirl26‌ I took a class with DS and I thought it was great. It was put on through our hospital. It was 6:30-9:30 also, but only for 2 days. I'm an information gatherer by nature so it helped me feel better heading into labor, delivery, and a newborn.

@heathersf11‌ no experience with acid reflux, but I hope you feel better soon!

@CreechMommy‌ sounds like RLP to me too. I get it pretty often and I basically just have to freeze until it goes away, it's super painful. My OB said it should get less frequent as my uterus gets bigger and can't move from side to side so much and pull on the ligaments.

Not a silly question at all! I took the classes with angel DD. I thought they were worth it. I basically knew how to hold a baby and change a diaper...I found the baby care helpful, the information about labor/birth, as well as the breastfeeding class and tour of the hospital. I reccomend it.

  • @BluEyedGirl26 - We're taking a childbirth class, but it's geared towards natural birth, which I think is very different. We're enjoying it. The midwife told me that I don't need to take the hospital birth class in addition to this. It seems like a lot of what you mention above would be covered in you post-birth aftercare, along with the tour. I've heard that the classes at the hospitals tend to be the least informative, but I'm sure some of them are fabulous.

@footprint - Hope the swelling doesn't get too bad! I'm sure you've heard all the tips. Sorry you're having a rough time. ((hugs))

@MoreThanSparrows08 - Hope the baby comes soon. I've definitely heard it's much easier to be med-free if you haven't been induced. Congrats on having those meals frozen!

@heathersf11 - I'm with you on the reflux and cough! I've actually spent the morning in tears because of this reflux thing. I ate little last night, waited the right amount of time before bed, and I still got it bad enough to keep me awake. Then I ended up STARVING, but didn't want to get up and eat bc I knew I'd just get more reflux. It's honestly ruining my life a bit--I can't sleep, so I'm not getting work or exercise done (and my favorite exercise, yoga, is impossible bc of the upside down time), I can't eat well, I'm not drinking my water like I'm supposed to, nor am I taking my prenatals, and I'm tired and cranky all the time. I can't figure out what my triggers are, so I've been trying to find recipes that avoid the usual problems:
    1) Low acid
    2) Not too fatty/rich (I have suspicions nuts are a problem)
    3) Not spicy
    4) Vegetarian
    5) High protein
And I'm drawing a total blank! I'd really like to "eat clean" for a few days to see if I can reset, but I can't even figure out step 1. :(( The only thing I can tell you about the cough is to get a really awesome humidifier. I practically carry ours around with me all day.

Sorry. I guess that turned into a rant. (Need that blushing emoticon here, but it's broken.) My midwife wants me to try to manage this without meds first, and I like that idea, but I'm totally failing.

@Creechmommy - Definitely RLP. Avoid sudden movements, and pull your legs in if it comes. Mine's gotten a lot better, too.

@Natalie115 - Sorry, I'm clearly not going to be helpful about sleep. LOL Good luck with your a/s!

  • @BluEyedGirl26‌ DH and I did the birthing classes and I found them to be a bit repetitive, however still worth the money. I picked up a few tips for feeding, etc., that I didn't know and although DH "claimed" to already know everything the discussed, he clearly didn't. I found the classes to be a huge help for him as he's not nearly as self-directed as I am when it comes to learning.

  • @pblge, I fell the same way - I can't seem to pin down what causes my heartburn, so I wonder if it's not triggered entirely by food? Maybe it just comes in waves? It seems so unpredictable. My mom told me she had severe heartburn throughout all of her three pregnancies so it may be just genetic? It stinks.

    ALL WELCOME!

  • @Peggels24 @MegDownTheShore - Thanks, and I definitely think water can do it! It really is about mechanics for later pregnant women--the stomach is small and that valve just doesn't want to stay closed. My mom had serious trouble with GERD, so she and I had a long talk today (since I wrote my whiny post above) and figured out a plan. We worked out a mini-cleanse plan of a few meals (just got done cooking up a storm) that should be minimally irritating. I'm going to take a few days of super clean eating, doing every single thing they tell you to do to avoid heartburn, and see if I can get ahead of this thing. I can share details if anyone is interested, although I'm not sure of how well it will work.

  • peggels24 @MegDownTheShore and @pblge I'm so sorry that you have all been dealing with such bad heartburn. I hope it gets better soon.
Eating smaller, more frequent meals that follow the GERD diet recommendations has been helping me with the reflux. I'm getting pretty bored with what I've been eating though. If there any great recipes out there I'd love to know.

  • I hope you ladies don't mind if I jump in here!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced an increase in muscle soreness with even just moderate workouts such as walking and light lifting. For a few days after a workout, I feel very sore in my groin/upper inner thigh area, my lower abs/belly my belly, and just generally all over. When I get out of bed in the I feel like I just did a marathon, but luckily that feeling goes away after I move around a bit.

Anyone start experiencing this in second or third tri??
