Toddler tummy troubles

so it seems that the two things that go together are tummy troubles and bad sleep here. DD sleeps great when she is having regular BMs and eating well but occasionally her BM schedule gets off and she skips a day or so followed by a big messy diaper and diaper rash and several bad nights of sleep. Once It is relieved she naps and sleeps well again. I thought it was teeth because tylenol seems to relieve it, but now I'm wondering if it is her digestive system. Thoughts?

Re: Toddler tummy troubles

  • I think that makes sense.  I haven't noticed the pattern in DS, but I'm going to look for it now.  He's had a couple of bad sleeping nights and today had a big gross squishy diaper after not really pooping well for a few days.  We'll see what tonight brings!

  • DD doesn't sleep well if she's gassy. And even after doing a food log, I still can't figure out what makes her gassy and what doesn't. I do know that extra greasy food will do it. So we try to stay away from that but sometimes going out to eat we can't decide how the chicken is cooked.

  • Its ironic that as I am reading about your DD's movements, my DD2 is sitting here filling me a huge, stinky present.

Does she seem to get the big movements and rashes after eating any particular food? Anything acidic? Excessive dairy?

I get bad digestive issues after eating too much diary, and get the stomach troubles.  As a baby, I also had horrible diaper rashes (thanks mom).  E is the same way.  E gets the most awful diaper rash when he eats acidic foods or has loose bms.

Food for thought, I also get the same stomach troubles eating corn and corn products (popcorn, cornbread, cornmeal stuff).  First its almost excruciating stomach pains, then the other digestive problems.  So I might try a food journal for a period of time and see if any particular food(s) trigger an episode?
