To those who have a name with 2 pronunciations...

We are 2 weeks away from my due date. I've posted a few times about our name choices, and we're pretty sure we're going with Cara. Our 2nd choice is Claire. DH loves Cara, and I do too, but I've just been thinking a lot about the 2 different pronunciation thing and it's weighing on me for some reason. We aren't talking to people about names IRL, and I actually don't have any close friends with names that are pronounced 2 ways.

So - if you or your child have a name like this, with 2 pronunciations, is it a hassle or no big deal??

I'm sure I'm overthinking, but at the end of 3rd tri time seems to tick by slowly and I'm thinking about it a lot!

FWIW - we pronounce Care-uh and live in the States, where I think that pronunciation is most common.

DD has a name that has more than one pronunciation. It is mostly nbd. At places like the dr's office, etc most people pronounce it the way we do, but I don't get upset when people use another pronunciation becasue I knew going in this was possible. 

She's only 18mo and she often goes by a NN so I'm really only at the beginning of this journey.

My name is Kyna, and it's pronounced 'Keena' but it can also be pronounced 'Kai-na'

Most people get it wrong, but it's never really bothered me at all.

I would always say Cara - Car-uh. In fact when you were talking about 2 pronunciations, I had no idea there was another pronunciation.

If you wanted the Care-uh pronunciation, I would spell it Keira.

But I'm in NZ. If you think it's most commonly pronounced how you say it, where you are then go for it.

Keira to me is KEE-ar-ah or KEER-ah. Not Care-uh.

I pronounce Cara  as Care-Ah

This is also one of our top names for this baby, but the only reason we haven't decided fully is because of the two pronunciations. For some reason that really bothers me. My mom works with a Cara (not closely or often) but says she can never remember if she is a care-uh or car-uh.

For the record, I would pronounce it care - uh. DH prefers car-uh but conceded to me.

I read it as Car-uh, but see Care-uh too. I like both, though.

That's my name, and I almost never get Car-ah. 99% of the time I get Care-ah, which is what I prefer.

My name is Kirsten and people either say kiersten or even Kristen. Once I say it again, they usually remember and its nbd. The name we have picked out for our baby girl (coming Friday!!) is hard to say at first but it just takes once and people get it. My husband wanted to rethink the name but I reminded him about my name and always having to say it twice when meeting people and that it really is nbd. I say go with it!

My name gets mispronounced all the time, but I'm so used to it by now if doesn't bother me. My name is Marisa, pronounced Ma-ree-sa. I always get the more common Ma-riss-a.

I think it's nbd, esp in the states. Care-uh is the most common pronunciation as far as I know. And I don't think a mispronunciation is that big of a deal anyway. Personally, I kinda like car-uh better, but I read it as care-uh. No idea why.

Cara, Tara, Sara(h) all get pronounced the same way in my mind. I find it odd (and a little pretentious/annoying) when people insist on Car-ah or Tar-ah.

Both of our older girls have names with multiple pronunciations.  Its generally NBD.  Most people hear a name before they see it.  For the others, if it's someone we will see a lot we just say we prefer xyz and we all move on.  No biggie.
