Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 month wakeful

How long did your LO's 4 month wakeful period last. I am a little at my wits end here. Prior to hitting the 4 month wake like the Jan 6th (ish). She was waking at like 2:30 to eat and sometimes again 5:30. Sometimes she would just sleep until 7 however. I realize that is pretty good for an almost 4 month old. Now she goes down at 7:30 (nurses), wakes at 10, 12, 2, 4 and 6 to nurse. I could set my clock by her and I am exhausted. I feel like I have a brand new baby again (she wasn't even that bad at a couple days old!). I am so exhausted. Nothing really consoles her except nursing. Any words of wisdom?

  • I have no wisdom to share but my LO is doing the same thing and his naps are only 45 mins. I'm so exhausted too! I hope it gets better!

  • I'm in the same boat :(. I heard that it could potentially get better around week 19 (counting from due date). We've got at least 2 more weeks left I think :( Some nights I'm super exhausted and I've been occasionally co-sleeping to get some extra rest.
  • My LO was a champion sleeper, slept 6 hours straight at night after 1 month. We swaddled in the Woombie, and it was heaven.  Christmas eve it all went to poop. He woke up about 4 times a night crying.

    It finally ended last week.

I feel your pain, but it will end, I promise!

  • About 3 weeks. After counting up how many weeks LO is (I moved to months about 2 months ago, lol) yeah - he calmed down around week 19. It was like, one night he just woke up once, and then not at all, and he has pretty much been sleeping from 8 pm until 6 am for the past 2 weeks.

We tried everything we learned from books and advice and finally we just thought, "eff it, we're going back to what we were doing before when he was sleeping through the night 3 weeks ago." My assessment is that there really is no secret formula for this that works in all situations. We started feeding him cereal and putting him down earlier around the same time he started sleeping better - don't know if it had anything to do with it. I think it was just coincidence, honestly.

I know it feels like it will never end. There were many a nights I held him while I cried, but it's part of it. It is what it is and it will get better. Promise. :)

  • We're still sleeping mostly through the night despite being in the thick of it.. however day time naps are our constant battle ground now. We're right in the thick of it.. and the app I use to track these says we are in the middle of the storm and have 19 days left to go.  I've held her while she's screamed a few times already at this point and I'm suddenly reminded of the colic we had in the early days.

I don't have any wisdom for you, besides remember when they cry at you it isn't personal, they don't hate you.. they just don't understand the changes they are going through and it's hard and scary. Good luck mama.
