Brain fog

Is anyone else completely unable to make a decision right now?  My brain just keeps going back and fourth.  I am 34 weeks and have to make a decision whether I want to try for a vbac and schedule a c-section at 41 week (which means going a bigger hospital with a new doctor)  or if I just want to schedule a C-section at the local smaller hospital I have been going to.   I know I just need to pick one but I keep going back and forth and it's driving me crazy!   The indecisiveness is getting ridiculous.

  • I can't relate but maybe try making a pros/cons list of each and writing everything down...walk away and then go back and look at all your options?

  • Yes, but my indecision lately is usually more about what to eat for lunch.

I agree about weighing both options and taking some time to think about what you'd most like to do. Good luck!

  • I would try to get more information about the other hospital before deciding. For example, what percentage of attempted VBACs end in a c-section at that hospital and what threshold/criteria do they have for changing a VBAC into a C-section? A hospital that allows VBACs is not necessarily VBAC friendly. It doesn't make sense to go somewhere to try a VBAC if there isn't much of a chance to deliver vaginally in the end. But if the facility is supportive and invested in performing as many VBACs as possible, it may be a good choice.
However, all of this depends on how you feel about VBAC vs C-section in general. If you want to try for a VBAC it is alright to fight for it. It's also alright to admit that you'ld rather have a c-section.
  • I can't make a decision when it comes to food for the life of me. I'm hungry but at the same time nothing ever sounds good so I can never decide. Drives DH crazy!
  • Definitely talk to your ob and do some research. I was in the same boat for a while and decided to go ahead and schedule my c-section (my OB set it at 39 weeks) and if I happen to go into spontaneous labor then awesome if not oh well. Of course we only have one hospital in the city I live in with the nearest in state hospital over 3 hours away so I don't have to worry about my decision changing where I deliver. Talk it all over with your ob he/she can help you weigh what's best for you and baby.

  • A VBAC is only an option at the bigger hospital I would have to switch to.  I have met with two doctors there and wasn't super enthused about either one.    I never went into labor at all with my first, so while I would really like to avoid the hard recovery I had last time it's my understanding that not having gone into labor on my own last time means a reduced chance this time as well.

Just wish I could think rationally and not emotionally so I could make a decision.  The clock is ticking!  Thanks everyone for the input!
