Homework help

Anyone want to help me get some extra credit?  I have one simple question that needs a response.  I need 10 people to help me.

Here's the question:
What Do You Believe Is The Most Important Health Issue Facing Americans Today?

If you want to help (thank you thank you thank you!), you can respond here or PM it to me :)

Re: Homework help

  • Obesity.
Do you need more than a one word response?

  • Unhealthy eating habits- I see it just getting worse and worse and the repercussions affect every aspect of people's health.
  • I'll play, if it can be general an aging population is it needs to be specific misinformation about vaccinations leading to disease resurgence.

  • I agree on obesity, I also feel like money management for older teens/young adults in prepping for adulthood.

    I don't think so.

  • I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but when I saw the question, obesity is the first thing I thought of.  It's the cause of so many other diseases as well, that could be avoided if we took better care of ourselves.

  • Another vote for obesity.  Smoking came in at a close second for me, since it also causes a greater likelihood of so many diseases.
  • I was going to say Obesity, too. To add to that, Type II Diabetes.

  • First thing that came to my mind was obesity also. Let me know if you need more than a one word response!

  • I looked, and no there isn't more than a one word response required.  I just say what each person said, and then I reflect on it.

  • I say obesity as well.

  • My first thought was "the COST of health care." but then I re-read it and thought you meant actual health problems. I was going to say obesity, but that's been taken already.

I personally think that the cost of healthcare contributes to actual health problems.  People who can't afford to see a doctor are (I would guess) less likely to get preventative care or catch major problems early.

  • OMG- So dumb. I just saw the "health" part of the question. Skip that money thing. Tho, I do think it's a big deal, but totally not health related. Sorry.....lol!

  • Add another vote for obesity. But also, lack of sleep. People underestimate the ramifications of sleep deprivation (new moms can attest to its dangers), and it can have effects from making someone sick or forgetful to increasing stress levels or depression to shortening life span.

  • File under "maybe I'm not answering the right question" but:

The fact that what we actually have is "illness care" instead of "health care" and the fact that health care is a business first.  Those factors are preventing most folks from living up to a true health potential.

  • If we're branching out beyond actual physical issues, I'd say medical lawsuits and the cost of insuring doctors and the effect of this on the price of care.  I'm so sick of commercials advertising class action lawsuits for known side effects of medications that are helping people.  I'm frustrated that many med students can't practice clinical medicine at the same time as they do research because of the cost of insuring them.

I say stress given its link to obesity, heart disease, etc. I have a great article detailing the links.
I'd be afraid to read it as I'm a person who is constantly stressed. ;)

and lack of sleep is a major factor in obesity, along with not exercising and eating badly..

  • I'd say stress. I think it impacts so many areas of someone's life.

  • So I've thought about this a lot, even though I'm sure your assignment is over.  I think stress is the #1.  It affects the other things I think are major issues:  obesity, lack of sleep, etc.

Add me to the list of those with first thought being the cost of healthcare being the biggest issue.

  • My assignment isn't over until Sunday :)  Thank you all so much!  I realize now that maybe I shouldn't have let you respond here just in case you influenced each others answers, but oh well.  I like that there was some conversation and exchanging ideas, not just a response.
