Trouble TTC

New to TTTC Intro

Hello Group, I have decided I would like to introduce myself. I had one post/question on her about OPKs last month. My husband and I have been trying for 15 months. We saw a fertility specialist on Thursday and found out I have a high thyroid level and my FSH level was also high (they want to retest me for that). My husbands tests all came back good. She said we have an unexplained infertility. We have decided to get my thyroid level under control through meds. We are going to keep trying on our own for another few months and come May we will start our first IUI attempt. My doctor wants to do Clomid with ultra sounds a shot of hcg and then insemination (pretty standard procedure from what I've heard). Any advice from any of you lovely ladies who are in or have been in my position? I felt very emotional and tried to keep myself from breaking down when the doctor talked about the next steps and options. I never imagined how frustrating and disappointing it would be to get a BFN month after month, and I realize we are still in the early stages compared to some. We waited to be "ready" for a baby and just assumed it would happen on its own, right away when we decided to try. I feel very lucky that there is a group with knowledge and personal experience for support. Thank you in advance.

Re: New to TTTC Intro

  • First of all, welcome. I am sorry you have to be here. It sounds like got and your RE have a great plan started and that should be a great relief for you. I don't know if this helps but one of my cousin's wife has problems with her thyroid and they just announced she is pregnant so it will happen for you.
I don't have much advice, I am rather new to all of this too. I have gone through two unsuccessful iuis and starting my 3rd. I have taken clomid each time and have had no side effects.
I wish your the best of luck and look forward to chatting with you on here.

  • Thank you! I guess the thyroid issue increases my chance of MC but it should not be preventing us from conceiving. Thank you for the info tho. Good luck on #3, I hear that's the lucky number. I'll send positive thoughts to you!

  • Welcome to the group! Sounds like your REI has a great plan for you. I'm doing a similar plan - clomid, Ovidrel injection and timed inter course. The only side effects I have are hot flashes from the clomid and bad bloating for a few days after the injection ( but I like to think of that as it's working!) I can understand your stress and frustration and can only tell you it will continuing for a while but is totally normal. Try to surround yourself with supportive and positive people and try to keep yourself busy or occupied during the times of waiting to help ease the stress and anxiety. Best of luck!!

  • Welcome to the board and I'm sorry that you find yourself with us. I have no experience with any of your diagnosis but I wish you lots of luck!

Your response to the RE news is totally normal. I think even when you go in knowing something is wrong it still feels like a slap in the face when they spell it all out for you on paper. I did fine in the office, got to the car and started driving away and just broke down into all kinds of ugly tears. I was relieved to have answers coming, a plan, someone who wanted to actually help me but I was devastated at the prospect that my only option was IVF. I had to mourn getting pregnant the "normal" way.

  • Welcome and good luck!

  • @lavishpeach‌ yes HSG was done and everything looks clear. One section has a small shadow but dye made it all the way through with out any problems. My RE thinks it could have just been a bit of mucous but will keep an eye on things. My RE is from the reproductive Heath department at my hospital, and for what we are paying she better be the real deal ;)@BlueFairy5‌ Yes blood work was done on day 3 but AF came about 4 days late that cycle so my RE thinks I had a cyst that threw things off. We will retest with my next cycle. Thank you everyone for your kind words and welcomes to the group. I appreciate hearing what everyone else has experienced and I'll keep positive thoughts for all of you. Not sure if there are any other fire wives out there who want to vent about schedules (or anyone else who has a husband with a 48 hour on work schedule or who they themselves have that). In the beginning of TTC I thought that would be the biggest hurdle. My husband lives at the station for 48 hours and then has 4 days home. It can make timing things a little more difficult. When the time for our IUI's come around hopefully it all works on the right days or he will need to call in sick ;) Thanks again everyone!!!

  • So sorry that you find yourself here, but welcome!
  • Oh my goodness, I am SOOOOOO sorry.  I really hope I didn't offend anyone, that was not my intention at all by my comment  I completely forgot to add a tag to warn everyone and that is all that happened.  I was just trying to help give positive thoughts to keep spirits up and I didn't think to add a tag warning.
I will work hard at trying to remember in the future.

  • I know I'm late to the welcome wagon, but I wanted to stop by to say hello. The beginning stages of IF testing and treatments can be so overwhelming and scary so let yourself feel what you feel. We're all there with you.

Sounds like you have a good plan to start out. Hopefully you won't have to be here long.
