Strange nesting obsessions...

I don't know whether I am truly nesting, or just enjoying the tremendous 2nd tri burst of energy that finally hit, but I have been going through my house "to do" list like crazy! Today I could *not* shake the urge to replace every single door hinge and door knob in my house (they were gold and I wanted them to be oil rubbed bronze). I've had the materials sitting in the closet for probably six months but today, that was suddenly hugely unacceptable and the hardware on every door in my house now matches. :) now that I sit back and look at it, I laugh at myself for thinking that should be my top priority (then again, I have 14 weeks to go.)

Have you ever gotten a ridiculous nesting obsession?

Re: Strange nesting obsessions...

  • Yup! Like you, I just got my energy burst. DH painted DD1's new room today, and I have been shopping for a bunch of stuff I have had on my to do list for a while now (decorations for DD1's room, new stuff for LO2, etc.). We have also been cleaning all the ceiling fans and air ducts, etc. I've been working on a baby quilt for LO2. I know the energy burst won't be around for long, so I'm trying to get everything done asap. Poor DH. lol

  • I've been praying for this! I have so much crap to do and I can't seem to un-nest my ass from the couch. Send me your nesting vibes please!!

Came out of nowhere and took me entirely by surprise! Sending you vibes xoxoxo hopefully they will be for something more productive than door hinges!
  • Desire, yes. Energy, no.

I felt that way for the longest time. I just made lists of things to get done and then beat myself up for not getting a single thing done on the list. Then suddenly it was like I popped three Adderall (which I haven't taken in years)! It's kind of awesome. And equally perplexing.
  • Goll, I am 2 days away from third tri, and STILL waiting for my second tri energy burst. DH appears to have caught the nesting bug, though, so at least something is getting done in my house.

  • I'm almost in my third tri and I feel like I still haven't gotten my burst of energy. But I'm not nearly as exhausted as I was for the first 14ish weeks, either. I remember coming home from work, showering, and falling asleep the second my head hit the pillow.
  • I'm just about at week 29, and my 2nd tri. energy only lasted about two weeks

This encourages me to not waste any time-- although the surge of energy is such that I don't think I could waste it if I wanted to!

  • Yes... My husband and I are going to complete our baby registry. I can't wait! I think we will start at babies r us.
  • I am pretty much obsessing over the wall decal for the nursery. I live in India and oh man, do I miss BRU!
  • I've got the nesting energy surge as well - one afternoon I tackled our storage locker and got rid of a bunch of stuff and pared down everything from old textbooks to Christmas decorations. Another day I bought all new pantry shelving and reorganized that as well. Other days I've detailed my car and sorted the junk drawer. My feeling is that I won't have time for stuff like that once baby arrives so I want our lives to be as lean and mean and organized as possible beforehand. Feels great!

That's awesome! And I agree, I'm sure part of me is motivated by the knowledge that very little outside "extra" stuff will get done once the baby comes, so might as well get as much as possible tackled now. But this crazy surge of energy is definitely helping!

I don't have a ton more energy, but enough that we're slowly getting things done. 7 years of crap is getting sorted, tossed, and donated. I just want there to be room for all the baby stuff we'll get at my showers, and am obsessed with getting rid of stuff that hasn't been used in 3 years or more.

I fall asleep every night thinking about which corner of the house I'll tackle tomorrow. It's very satisfying. :)

  • DH and I are still waiting for this burst of energy we keep being told about. I think it made a slight peek yesterday and I started taking down the Christmas tree. I was done after the ornaments were boxed. Now I have a naked tree with lights. Small steps..

  • I started getting the urge about two weeks ago. We currently live in a 1 bedroom apartment so we have to make room for baby girl in our bedroom. Started with the closets and going through absolutely everything. Tossing and reorganizing. Every drawer and shelf is being sorted. Next up is moving the furniture to make room for the crib/pack n play and changing table. Don't have a lot of energy but the nesting urge is definitely alive.
  • 29 weeks here and I just had to clean my car out. Vacuum, clean windows, and of course clean the outside. I live in Maine (so it's basically a waste of time to clean and vacuum this time of year) and the salt was driving me nuts. It's a balmy 37 out, so today was the day for the car wash. And of course once it dried, I realized I missed a spot. Oh well!
  • S/o, I'm on leave from work for anxiety issues (which is GREAT news considering I had PPA after DD1 was born, so I can just imagine how I'll be when LO2 gets here... It's just wonderful!! =/ ), and my claim is caught in red tape (it will be approved, but it could take a few weeks). This means I haven't been paid last pay, and might not get my next pay. The money will all come in eventually when they approve my claim, but not right now. Which means I can't go shopping for all the stuff on my to-do list right now, despite the fact that I have the energy and the willingness to do it! I'm trying to focus on stuff I can do at home, but all the projects I really want to work on involve a new shelf/material/etc. Bad timing. Very bad timing. lol I hope this energy burst thing will last a while longer!

  • @boxermamahm‌ hehe, you sound like my DH
New electrical outlets, wall speakers installed, stair railing, just everything we purchased in plans of working on. All have been tackled and done.

Unfortunately my energy level only exists if I sleep 9 hours, with daily 2 hour naps. So not much of a help

  • So glad to hear I'm not crazy! We just bought a new house and poor DH has a honey do.the size of his arm. Im obsessed with everything matching and being clean. Scrubbed all the trim with magic eraser and I think I've changed the bedroom.curtains at least 4 times. You know, cuz it wasn't right lol. 32 weeks today and hoping it stopssoon Lowe's and i have become a little too good of buddies
  • Lol! I vacuumed my ceiling fans and light fixtures. We are redoing our living room, and I've been super anal about cleaning the walls as stuff gets done. But after I stop what I'm doing and sit down my body hurts sooo much! We have all hardwood floors in our house, not a lick of carpet, and there's been at least 7 inches of snow on the ground for a month now, I've given up on mopping for a while. My poor swifter has been worked to death!
