Infertility

1st IVF cycle and egg retrieval questions

I started my 1st IVF cycle a couple weeks ago and had my ER yesterday.  They got 14 eggs, as of now 10 have fertilized.  I have questions regarding the recovery from the ER procedure.  I'm not even really having cramping or ovarian pain but I'm having a lot of bloating/gas discomfort under my diaghram. Is this normal? and what can I do to help with the discomfort? It's only been about 36 hours since the procedure and I know I probably shouldn't have gone back to work, but I did (I'm a nurse and work night shift).

Re: 1st IVF cycle and egg retrieval questions

  • Siggy warning - I was told to bed rest for 4 days, I listened to the RE, some are told not to rest at all, it depends on RE instructions. I had bloating after ER and ET, it's normal.

  • I had a lot of bloating and gas as well. I rested for the better part of two days after ET. The Valium they gave me just wiped me out and I could still feel it the next day. I would just say take it easy and drink a lot of fluids. I didn't take anything for gas and just took Tylenol for pain. Good luck!

  • bloating is normal. My RE recommended V8

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

  • Oh the bloating...why don't they warn you about that? I actually called my nurse after hours last night because I really thought something was wrong with me (I look 5 months pregnant).  I was told it's totally normal and only to worry if you start experiencing shortness of breath, a lot of pain, or pain when urinating.

I haven't really found anything that helps aside from a TON of water.  I've also given up on wearing normal pants and live only in yoga pants or leggings (even at work - I've been getting some interesting looks).  I have been taking colace regularly and miralax when needed as extreme constipation was another lovely side effect I had.

Me (30): Blocked fallopian tube, mild Hypothyroidism

    DH (31): Low motility and morphology<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    Married: 8/11, TTC since 1/14

    IVF #1: January 2015

  • I hope your feeling better!! I just wanted to add that 10 fertilizing is wonderful!! Good luck to you!!
