Oh.... I think if I put my number one UO I might get banhammered. I must ponder this a moment. I did actually have one earlier this week, but pregnancy brain has eaten it.
We just found out we are having a girl at our scan yesterday. I started looking at baby girl clothes online last night and OMFG THEY ARE SO UGLY AND IMPRACTICAL. Why must everything be covered with sparkles, glitter, and polyester ruffles and flowers?!?! I just know my MIL is going to buy so much of this ugly crap for our LO and I am going to have to hide it in the back of the closet until she visits.

I HATE ketchup. The thought of it makes me queazy. And if you bust it out to slather it on your eggs or hashbrowns please just get away from me until you've finished. Vomit.
I'm serious when I say I'm really sad that I don't have anything in my lunch that I can put ketchup on.

Look at the Burt's Bee's clothes. I felt the same way until someone showed me these. They're a little pricey, BUUUUTTTTTT they also sell them at Marshall's! They're all organic cotton. There is some pink and some frills, but it's so tame compared to some of the other glitter unicorn shit I see everywhere.

My sister will be 15 at the end of this month and while I hoped she'd out grow her insane ketchup obsession.. She hasn't. She puts that shit on everything. She will literally take hot dog bun and slather it in ketchup for a snack. She dips her regular potato chips in it. She used to dip pickles in it when she was younger. NASTY.
I like ketchup on french fries and hashbrowns, but you will never see me dip a potato chip or pickle in it. YUCK!

My DH has already proclaimed that if we have a girl, she will not wear those huge puffy fluffy sparkle dresses lol. I've found some really cute girlie sleepers at Carter's that don't make you wonder how you could possibly put them on your child with a clear conscience. Now, I have to admit that I'm super girlie and LOVE pink, glitter, ruffles, the whole 9 yards. BUT NOT FOR BABIES! Soooo very impractical.

I'm gonna second this! I mentioned it to someone the other day looking for unisex stuff. They sell BB clothing on amazon, too, and a lot of their "boy" clothes would totally work on girls (so don't search just for "girl" outfits).
I hate the term/phrase "andplusalso". As soon as I read that, your argument is no longer valid, you just sound like a whiney tween girl to me.
Isn't that the point? It's in the same category as not being able to even. Most people who say it aren't "whiny tween girls", which is what makes it humorous.
Andplusalso, I just like it.

I hate 100% of character shit and it will never be in my house, especially clothes. I also love when people say "oh just wait...". Really? What am I waiting for, exactly? My 4 year old to get a job and start buying his own Paw Patrol crap if he wants it? Because until then, I'm pretty sure I'm the one making those kinds of decisions.

SO MUCH THIS. All I think of is those cheap screen printed polyester pajamas. ::shudder::
This will probably bite me in the ass though because I was Barney's #1 fan circa 1994. Barney dishes, blanket, curtains - BARNEY ERRTHANG.

DH complained once that girls clothes are too girly, and bought a (hideous) grey and blue track suit for our niece as a "welcome baby" gift. His sisters teased him mercilessly about it for months and since we had DD he has completely converted to girls clothes.
We do avoid things with ruffly tulle attached and too many sparkles though...and it's my mother who is the problem in our family. She gave us a pink faux fir capelet with matching, ridiculous hat, and was just so pleased with it. We got home and DH was like, we are NEVER EVER putting that on DD. Ever.

Couldn't have said it better. I go out of my way to buy plain backpacks, lunch boxes, bike helmets you name it. And you know what? DS still loves it all! It doesn't have to have Olaf on it to be cute or useful.
We do not have that place here (PacNW) so I have never tried it. While i have heard that the food was delicious, I would not eat there due to moral reasons.
Edit: also, ketchup is gross. Give me all the ranch!

Lol, we're all about Batman underpants around here. But since I'm not changing poopy diapers, I'm totally on board. Get all the super hero underpants you want, son!
But no paw patrol.
Edit: I also hate ketchup. Always have. There is none in our fridge, and I'm not sure my kids know what it is.

IsadoraB - I felt the same way about girl clothes.... so my husband picked out some outfits and dressed her... she had a camo jacket that she wore for about 6 months... with her pony. It was adorable. Andplusalso - she was born in OCtober so I didn't take her out of sippered sleepers until she went to day care at 14 weeks. WAY easier to deal with than pants.

What? No!! Why?? Where are you looking for clothes? Have you looked at Carter's? They have the cutest (non-vomit inducing) stuff for baby girls.
My UO is that I am not thrilled with my new Snoogle. Last night was my second night sleeping with it and I just can't... I ended up throwing it off the bed at 5 am. DH wanted to cuddle with me and he ended up spooning the Snoogle instead.
My UO I think the whole Bump thing will blow over. This kind of thing has happened over and over. A new normal will emerge whether everyone likes it or not. I think people think the Bump with suffer if they leave but in reality there will be someone to take their place. I'm not saying it isn't ridiculous but I don't think leaving will do anything either way.
I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!
My UO... I don't understand spending a ton of money of crib bedding, crib skirts, crib sheets.
1. No one will really see my nursery/LO's bedroom other than me and DH and the occasional visitor. Very rarely to people walk around my house looking in bedrooms, and if they do, I probably wouldn't invite them back over.
2. My child can't even have a blanket in their crib until... Well, I'm not sure exactly, I'm a FTM, but I know it's quite a few months.
3. My baby will more than likely pee through a diaper, shit through a diaper and possibly vomit on said sheets. Why should I spend lots of money on them?!
I get having a cute and nicely decorated nursery, and I plan on it, but I won't be spending tons on a bedding set.
End rant.
And PS - I'm not judging anyone who does spend the $$, I just don't want to be pissed at my kid when he/she shits on the $50 crib sheet or blanket.
Totally get what you're saying here (crib bumpers for $200? For real?) - the flip side for sheeting is that these fitted sheets will be washed more than any others you own by a LOT. Quality sheeting can survive the 8,000 wash cycles and still look great, while some lesser brands will start to fray or the elastic will start to get loose (or break!) Does that mean that you can't find sturdy sheeting for less money? Of course not - but for some items, the old adage "you get what you pay for" holds true.
I'm excited I'm having a boy mainly because no pink frilly stuff (clearly, I didn't actually have a strong preference).
I hate all condiments - ketchup, mayo, mustard, relish, horseradish, butter etc. I also hate tomatoes and pickles. Basically, if there's a pre-made sandwich, I won't eat it.
My UO: I cannot walk into a fast food place like McDonalds, Wendys, Burker King, etc without gagging. I really hate fast food and the greasy smell just nauseates me. Closest I'll come to fast food - pizza, Subway, and some of the quick serve sushi places.
If we drive through McDonald's and I'm in the passenger seat, I always lean over DH so I can get a better smell. Mmmmm.

On the topic of character stuff, I don't mind the toys. We have a set of Mickey characters that DD loves to play with while watching MMCH and a couple stuffed Elmos given to her by MIL (I could do without the Elmos). That is as far as we have gone. The only character clothing she has is a sweater with Snoopy on it that was too cute to pass up. She has no say in what clothing gets purchased and I aim to keep it that way for a while. The tween and teen years will be bad enough so I'm exerting my will for now.

This. It's so good. But they're so bad. My rule is only on car trips. It's hard enough to find something that's real food. If I have a better option then, I take it, but my stomach hates McDonalds and the like, so that's what I settle on.
threearrows - and that's totally fine. I have zero problem how other people dress their kids (or feed them, or what they watch on tv, etc.) I mainly just hate the "oh just wait and see" mentality of so many people. And it definitely applies to wayy more aspects of parenting than just clothes, as I'm sure you know
I'll bite on the chickfila thread. First of all, I would mainline chickfila sauce directly into my arm if I weren't deathly afraid of needles. Second, I have exactly zero negative feelings about eating there and somewhat roll my eyes at the "boycott" some people put on it. They're an *incredibly* philanthropic organization, and they've proven that their personal beliefs have no barring on their hiring practices or treatment of their employees. And if that's the precident you're going to set, then you should probably do your research because there are SO MANY other companies you should probably stop patronizing. I'm not going to suddenly turn into bigot homophobe because I like waffle fries.

Seriously - I feel that way about a lot of kids clothes. What baby needs a $150 cashmere sweater?
Re: girls clothes. I throw up looking at the ruffled things on the bottom of little girls pants. Head bands I could love, but glitter farts and hot pink leopard. No. Just no. Your kid looks like a clown. For this reason I was happy we are having a boy. I know my MIL would spend ridiculous amounts of money on stupid girl clothes with ruffles and I would be like please take that shit back and return it for some diapers that we actually need. Thanks.
Re: chick-Fil-a is awesome. End of story.
Re: characters. I can't STAND when kids have them on their shirt. (Don't hate me) I think it looks so Walmart-y (not hating on Walmart entirely). Like we get it, she loves Elsa. We all love Elsa. But Elsa all over your walls and your clothes and your car and your bedroom and your living room. No. Not happening, that I promise. The light up shoes can go too. They went out in the 90s when we were kids, Let. It. Die!!!
Re: crib bedding. we got a pottery barn gift certificate for Christmas and the thought was we can buy nice bedding for the crib. WRONG. I am not wasting money on that shit. I'll go to target and get 10 $9.99 fitted sheets for your 1 sheet set. No thank you. It's a waste!
Regarding the ketchup haters...what the heck?! I put that shit on (almost) everything. I also love mayo, ranch, mustard, and my absolute favorite is yum-yum sauce from hibachi places! Basically, give me all the dips/sauces.
