Explosive pooper

DD is an explosive pooper. She blew out size 3s, so I moved her up to 4s. I have tried three different brands and it doesn't matter. At least once a day she has a massive blow out. I'll start solids with her soon (she's 5.5 months) so that hopefully will help the blow outs. In the meantime...anyone else have an explosive pooper?

Re: Explosive pooper

  • Oh man, that sounds rough. No advice though. Generally once DD starts having blowouts going up a diaper size fixes the problem for us, obviously you already did that. Good luck with the solids helping once you start those.

  • Mine will frequently have blowouts.. they aren't always that massive, but some still manages to escape out the back and I have to change his clothes as a result.  He's in size 3's right now.  I tried size 4's overnight since he also pees a lot, but the leg holes were too big and it wasn't working.  If DS happens to be lying flat or if I'm holding him upright, I usually avoid the poop escaping the diaper.  If he's in a bent position at all, then we could be in trouble.  We haven't started solids yet, either, but I'm hoping that will help too!

  • Sounds aweful.  My DDs have all been explosive poopers, but only pooped once or twice a week.  My first two I had in cloth diapers and that handled them much better.  I just can't get into it this time.

Solids will help solidify the poops, in my experience.  Then you'll be worrying about constipation...or at least that was my story the last two times.

  • We have been having issues recently as well, but he has gone from being a VERY regular once a day pooper (between 10-11am) to an every other day pooper...hence the explosions!  I don't know what changed him we haven't started solids yet (hoping to this weekend) and haven't switched his formula?  He just got into size 3's so I don't believe a size 4 will help.

  • Just a warning, solids have made DD an explosive pooper. She has blown out her diaper 4 of the last 5 days. Before solids, she pooped maybe even 3 or 4 days and now it's every day at least once and usually all. over. the. place.

She loves sweet potatoes and squash and those are what she gets most nights, so just beware!

Funny story, DH and I went out to eat last night to "celebrate" our last night in our current house. Yeah...the explosion happened there. No change of clothes, and the only diaper I carried with me, the sticky part came off the diaper strap (Honest Co. diapers and that has happened quite often for me.) I couldn't believe my luck.

Shit always happens that 1% of the time we are not prepared (in your case literally).  LOL

Totally unrelated to poop explosions, but when I had to call the Dr. for an "emergency" appointment after I got home for work because DS had an ear infection, I literally flew out the door with DS to make the last appointment time.  Picked LO up off the scale and he projectile vomited all over me and himself!  I had the nurse hold him while I ran to the car to get the "emergency" diaper bag I keep in the car, and when she handed him back to me he threw up all over both of us again!  I stripped him down to change him and I realized I had an extra change of clothes but they were too small!  Had to stuff him in like a sausage. #Momfail

  • DD is also an explosive pooper, to the point where he was pooping through his diaper and ruining 2 outfits a day. At my cousins suggestion we moved up to size 4 Huggies little movers (had been using size 3 pampers swaddlers) and they have contained him the last two days. Although, the one i changed this morning the poop made it within like 1 cm from the top of the diaper.

  • on this topic - maybe this is FTM paranoia, but if my son is already in size 4 at 5 months old, what the heck am i going to do when he's 1! How big can the diapers get?!?!

  • Yep, LO has explosive poops a few times a week.  It used to be 1 massive explosion a day and it didn't matter which brand of diapers we had on him, it went all over the place.  We haven't purposely changed anything but now it seems his explosions are not happening as often.  He's 4.5 months and over 15 pounds but it seems like he has a small waist. He's currently in a size 1 and we use Huggies Snug & Dry or Pampers Swaddlers but we're going to try size 2's when the 1s run out. Last time we moved up too early and then pee & poo were leaking out everywhere because the diapers were too big.

  • @karacc18‌ They slow way down in growth after the first year. DS (2.5) is in size 6. I believe diapers go up to 7, but you have to order them (from what I have seen!)

DS went through diapers fast too, but once he hit size 5, he was in those awhile. He's been wearing 6s for quite some time too. I'm hoping he will be potty trained soon...hoping...wishing...

Yup. We are over 17lbs and still in size 2. There is plenty of room in the diaper. We have blowouts 3-4 times a week but he poops with force and it's not solid.
