Julia and I survived our trip to CA for the funeral. Man, was the trip out there rough though... I always forget that it takes almost an hour longer on the way there than back, and between the 1 hour flight and the 6 hour flight, Julia didn't sleep at all- just required constant interaction. The hotel that said they had a pnp, only had an arm's reach cosleeper, which would have been completely unsafe for a kid who can sit up, let alone stand, so the poor baby had to sleep in her carseat/ in bed with me. It was good to be there with family and meet my uncle's friends and try to help out a tiny bit with the estate stuff. It boggles my mind how much stuff there is to do when someone dies, and how all the responsibility is heaped on the shoulders of the person/people grieving the most
I may have to check out marisa's product recommendation too, cause my hands are okay, but my feet pretty much require lotion daily to not crack and bleed.
Our builder finally gave us two important dates yesterday. He said we'll be done building by March 27th so that we can be out of our apartment by April 1st. I'm so excited! (But also extremely nervous that there will be an unexpected delay and we'll be homeless).
Also, we're painting the house ourselves (with the help of two family members that do this for a living), and we finally got the date that we'll be able to do it. But we only have about a 4 day window to get it all done. And I just found out that at least two people I thought could help are unavailable. And, you know, someone has to watch the kids.
In April I'm going to be so much less stressed.
@kelbel527 the months leading up to our move in and the builder completing our house were some of the most stressful months of my entire life. I can't tell you how relieved I was once the house was finished and we no longer had to deal with all the decisions. Now we are just dealing with builder issues and problems that come along with a new house.
Yeah, I can imagine that will be fun when the time comes.
Our builder had us pick everything out ahead of time (before the build even started), which made me feel a lot less stressed when we started the build. We made most decisions in a short period of time and I couldn't dwell on them.
Now, it's actually the really little stuff that's getting to me. I've been stressing about paint colors and types of paint for weeks. I know I just need to go with my gut and let it go. DH also called yesterday about the placement about a column in our dining room and I've been stressing about it ever since. I'm too indecisive for this stuff!
Does the builder have homes you can walk through (or any model homes in your area) and just ask for the name of the paint that you like. Fresh out of college I worked for a home builder and people asked for the model paint colors all the time.
That's a good suggestion @hmp1 and I don't know why I didn't think of it, since that's exactly how we picked out everything else in our house.
That said - the struggle I'm having is that I'll fall in love with a color, but don't want to pay high $ for that brand of paint. So I think I just need to find those swatches and then go in and have them match the color in the brand we are buying.
@watercolor5 - Glad you survived the trip! I can't imagine how hard all that travel was. That time is so so tough, so it's great that you were able to go and say goodbye and provide support as well.
It was @gothefawktosleep who recommended the shop to me, so we should all be thanking her (in around a week) when we all have gloriously smooth, moisturized skin!
@melody921 I keep mistaking your siggy for mine. I just scrolled past one of your responses and did a double take. I was trying to figure out how I'd responded to something that I didn't remember responding to!
On mobile, so I'll have to check out your siggy later

I rallied all of my ILs and we painted our entire house in a day.
Be prepared for it to get stressful.
Wine, and Xanax, wine and xanax. Use it like a mantra.

They can do that no problem. Most of the time they have the color on the computer and they can put it into any brand you want. Just make sure you know the brand it came from originally. If they can't use their system they can color match it. <-it's that's actually taking the paint swatch and calibrating a machine to use it it might be slightly off. You would also need to bring back the label of the formula each time you get another can.
Also if an area is taking up several gallons, mix them together. Because of dye lots each paint can can vary slightly. ::says the girl who worked in paint for 6 years::
Ugh, I have a meeting from 2-430 with our science faculty. Seriously dudes, why do you want to meet with us, especially for over 2 hours with no agenda?! I have real work to do!
I can't sit anymore--my butt is KILLING ME. I cannot believe that a bruised tailbone hurts this much.
@pokedot - thanks for the suggestions! We've always painted one regular sized room at a time. I'm nervous about our large great room / hall / foyer etc. So we will definitely mix the paint.
@BPer - how many people did you have and how many rooms did you do? There were 4 people I thought I could count on that are unavailable now for that weekend (we have to work around the build schedule). So I think we will have max of 5 people. But 2 of those 5 are finished carpenters that paint frequently.
The advantage is that we're doing it before all floors, cabinets and fixtures. So the only thing we have to make sure to work around is the ceiling. That should speed things up.

And that emotion is sadness. Over my hurt butt.
before scrolling down and seeing your GIF, I totally thought of that line!! ~~~~ are you in my brain?~~~
@kelbel527 fly me over and I'll paint for you! Haha.
I am wanting to get the kids room finished, but DH is back at work now. He hasn't nailed the skirting boards on yet, so I can't finish painting the walls. And he used all the enamel paint so I can't paint the damn wardrobe and bookcase. He needs to haul his ass down to the hardware store and buy me more. I would do it, but I don't want to walk in the heat. It's horrible.
If I'm paying for a flight over there, it's for me to come there. Not that I wouldn't love to have you come help paint, I just want to visit your beautiful country!!
So flat would be no shine, really no protection whatsoever (not great for kids but awesome for hiding imperfections on your walls.)
Next would be eggshell. It's a smooth, velvetty (sp) feel but again doesn't offer a ton of washability. Also great for hiding imperfections.
Satin would be next on the sheen level. This is probably the most popular. It offers some protection and a hint of shine. We have satin through our whole house, including trim. It washes pretty well. You can't scrub and scrub however without the paint coming off.
Semi-gloss has some shine to it. I use it for kitchens/bathrooms. Places you'd be cleaning walls. (I'd stay away from this in areas that are large and bright, like a 2 story area)
Gloss is the highest shine but offers the most protection. You can scrub and scrub. People use this for trim but I prefer a bit less shine.

I have $25 of Gymbucks and I cannot find one cute thing to buy Ethan on the whole damn site. Maya has a few cute dresses from there that my mom bought her so I thought I would take the opportunity to get Ethan something complimentary for pictures. Everything sucks. Whah! I want to spend my money!
@kelbel527 they do offer a flat enamel in some brands which would be the finish of flat/eggshell (I think it looks more eggshell) but has a harder finish. It's would be scrubbable like a semi gloss. If it has "ceramic" in the name it's a harder finish.

I feel like this always happens. I can't find a darn thing when I have the extra money to spend but when I don't I want all.the.things! It's cruel.
I ordered curtains for B's room on Sunday and JCP says they are already here. I feel like that's too soon and I'll get there all excited and find out they in fact are not in. JCP takes like 2 weeks usually.

This was me during the Gap sale last week, especially after cruising through the girl clothes for THT first. I didn't order anything, so unlike me!

Does he have a Chambray shirt? I find them so versatile and cute for pictures. And great St Patty's day outfit with those green pants he had on the other day.

I have $75 in Gumbucks but I'm feeling too guilty over last week's spending splurge to spend them. Anyone interested?
Is it so much off a purchase or $75 to use for free? I've never used their "money" before.

FWIW, I worked a painting business with DH when we were in college. We painted the bedrooms in Eggshell, the main living areas in Satin, and the kitchen & bathrooms in Semi. I am not a huge fan of semi gloss and wish we had done Satin there too, but DH was won because of cleanability...

DH is on his way home from out of town. I should probably go speed clean so that he can't tell I've done nothing but talk on the internet all day. Today was a good day to have a crockpot meal planned.

@dimples12 I have been eyeing some of the spring line because it is all blue & gold. If you decide not to use them (or give them to Pokedot, let me know!

Hi! I thought I would have more time to hang out today since I'm home with the sicky. Nope. She's totally feeling better. DH always gets the 1st day because of the nature of our jobs and I get the day where she's already on meds and feeling better. We went to Home Depot since she's been cooped up since Sunday and I got $45 worth of cleaning stuff for my shower tile, floor grout, and dishwasher. How does a dishwasher get so icky? I also bought little plastic bins to organize the linen closet. Nesting?
