Fall

I feel like a horrible mother! Getting ready for work this am- I literally looked away for 1 second and my 7mo old rolled off the bed on to the carpet. He cried- I cried. He is fine and has not had any issues or injuries that I can see. I spoke to the pediatrician and she said just to watch him.
Ugh- feeling like a major mommy fail today. I am so so thankful he is okay but feel horribly guilty.

Just wanted to remind everyone to never take their eyes off their little ones. I would hate for someone else to go through this!

Re: Fall

  • Very true
  • DS2 fell off our bed a couple weeks ago. DH set him there and walked away. He screamed for a solid 5 minutes....but then he was totally fine. It happens.

  • DS rolled from the carpet to the hardwood the other day and hit his head. He cried for 30 seconds and then forgot about it. I felt awful the rest of the night. I think most of the time it bothers us more than them!

  • Brooke has rolled off the couch, tumbled out of the pack n play before I lowered it, and has whacked her head really hard on the hardwood floors. It's scary when it happens but she's ok.
You're not alone or a horrible mother!

  • Eh. Kids fall. DD rolled off the bed a few days ago too. As long as they fall onto a soft surface and/or the fall isn't more than 3 feet, it's usually NBD. All you can do is try to keep it from happening again. No need to feel too bad about it.

  • I brought DS to bed with me shortly after he became mobile. He woke up, I didn't...until I heard him fall. He seemed more scared than hurt and was fine a minute later. I, on the other hand, bawled. Glad I'm not the only one!

  • That thud sound is just the worst!
  • My friend told me when I was pregnant that you will drop DD and she will be ok! Dropping, rolling off things, all normal! You're not a bad mom! It happens to all of us!
  • These little ones are quite sturdy! Not a mom fail, a mom right of passage ;)

  • Think about the geniuses we'd have running around if no one dropped their kids. We might already have world peace but no!

It'll be okay. The first time is the hardest. It gets progressively easier. My 2 yo has taken several knocks to his noggin. Sort of missed his helmet for a while. Though my favorite story here was the one poster asking her kid not to roll off the couch.
