Cloth Diapering

Info for a friend

I'm irrationally excited that one of my IRL friends is considering using cloth. She's coming over next weekend to see all my diapers and get some info. She'll probably be borrowing my NB stash.

Her main concern is the extra laundry when she will be working full time. I don't think this would be too much of a problem, but since I work at home only part-time, I can't really give her too much reassurance about this.

For those of you that work outside the home, what is your routine like? Any advice I should pass along?

Re: Info for a friend

  • The first year of my daughters life I worked full time. It's not a big deal. It's not a lot of hands on time. It's not like you're beating them on rocks.

  • I did diapers on tursdays, Thursday's, and Sunday's, so I really only had to worry about it 2 days during the work week. I had 24 freetimes and 5 wetbags. We used the dryer too. Everything was fine. It only takes 5 minutes to start the rinse, start the wash, and transfer to dryer. I rarely bothered with folding. /ugly truth.

  • Hubs and I both work full time. I don't keep track of which days we do laundry, but we wash every other day in the evenings. Sometimes on my work-from-home day, I'll run the wash during the day.

Otherwise, once the girls are home, we throw everything in the wash, start the rinse cycle, then run the main wash and put things in the dryer and on the drying rack before bed.

We have a combo of pockets, AI2 systems, and ON fitteds. It's really not hard. It's just an extra load of laundry.

  • I work full time and really don't notice any extra laundry work. I feel like I'm constantly doing laundry anyway, so the extra load every other day is NBD. Although, I do use the dryer because I don't usually have enough time not to, but I also have enough diapers that if something comes up and I can't do laundry in the time I have after work, I can skip a day. Also- I'm a teacher, so I have vacations and summer when I'm not working. I don't feel like laundry is any more work when I'm working vs. when I'm home.
