I just found out I tested positive for group b strep. Who's with me?

I don't know yet I get tested on mon. But with my shitty luck I'm preparing myself for a pos result.  Not too worried though as I'm OK with getting the anti-biatic and they said something like 40% of men and women have it.

I googled (hangs head in shame) and now I'm slightly worried. But my Dr said it usually doesn't effect full term babies. I guess I can't worry about it; it is what it is.

I just got my results today and I've got the bug. I'm not too worried though (at this time) as long as there is no fever, prolonged > 18 hours ROM, or other signs of infection during labor the risk is very low.

I am not sure yet. My OB hasn't even brought this test up. I never heard of it, unless it was mentioned in my pregnancy book and I forgot about it. I'll have to ask about it next appointment.

It's usually done between 35 and 37 weeks. Right around the same time they start doing internals/weekly appointments. Maybe it's too early yet for you. I'm due feb 1, so I'm a bit ahead of most. But def ask at your next appointment!

Ah! I'm 34 weeks so that is probably why. I typically ask what to expect at my next appointment before letting the doctor leave, so I will probably be told about it after my appointment this week. I'll still ask about it. Thank you!

In the waiting room...finding out soon! I had it last time, it was more a pain bc of the iv and then dd needed the blood test so we had to stay for 24 hours but not something I really worried about.

Oh hey due date twin! I just realized yesterday that dd is superbowl sunday. Really hoping nit to be in labor then.

anyway, per spam, I'm also positive. They did my test at my 36 week appt last week.

Oh also the dr talked me through a bit today. You need the anti biotic, typically pennicilan, for four hours. If you are in the hospital laboring for less time than that they alert your pediatrcian. I forget what the bug can actually do to baby. Gotta look it up.

@flyster‌ of course baby and health comes first but I'm not gonna lie, I would be pissed if I miss the superbowl!! Thanks for the extra info. My dr was lean on the details I guess.

I was only able to get one round of antibotics last time and my understanding is that it needs to be 2 rounds 4 hours apart. So after they took a blood sample from dd I guess they monitor it for 24 hours and see if bacteria grows or something (?).

Surprisingly, I am negative this time around.  I was not expecting that!

GBS showed up in my urine awhile back, so I get to skip the glorious swab. My doc said it is a 30 minute IV when I first come to L&D and then another 30 minute IV later in labor if there is time. I'm not so stressed about it. I'm just grateful that I miss the swab!

I haven't been tested yet. I'm not worried about it though. I was positive with my DD and it was no. If deal. I made sure the hospital knew and got my antibiotics.
