Cloth Diapering

Suggestions for bigger baby registry items?

Hi Ladies! I think I've got my NB stash together (thanks for all the help!), but I'm realizing that it might be a good idea to have some CD items on the registry for after this little girl grows out of those. I had been thinking that we wouldn't want to buy a lot until we knew how she was shaped. I know we'd want a dozen or more prefolds and some workhorses--both in size medium, right? I have a handful of BG 4.0s, but I can tell that those pockets aren't going to be a favorite. Are there some covers or other AIOs/AI2s you ladies think would fit a variety of babies? Favorite doubler to recommend? Anything else? She's not going to be in daycare, as both my DH and I have flexible schedules, and all grandparents are on board with cloth.

TIA!

BG Freetimes are my favorite OS AIO. They fit L well and dry very easily. There was a bunch for sale on this week's swap thread.

ETA there was also a thread recently about cloth on registry. Don't hold your breath thinking most ppl will buy it for you. I was gifted a good amount of stuff from our registry but the only CD related item was diaper cream LOL.
  • I'd get a small variety of OS or AIOs to try out, because you never know what you're going to like, or what will fit well. Like PP said, the size small prefolds should last you for quite a while....long enough to figure out which OSs you like and get more of them. I'd suggest trying a Blueberry Simplex!

  • SoftBums are pretty versatile in sizing for different shaped babies. Hands down my favorite aplix diaper, and a bonus that you can use it as a pocket or just snap the insert on top sort of like and AI2. I really like my Grovia shells with a flat or prefold in them.  Best Bottoms are also always a winner.  I like their inserts for the diaper bag (because they are trim and fit in the diaper bag nicely), but I use prefolds or flats under for around the house. Umm lets see doublers, I recently got some of the GMD ones that I really like.  A lot of people use Joey Bunz hemp around here.

Do you have plenty of wetbags for DC? I thought 2 would be enough.  I found out I really needed 3 to allow for drying time after laundry, and 4 is better.

  • I love Best Bottoms, obviously.  I also really like the Imagine AIOs, especially for the price.  What about registering for some fitteds and covers, in case LO is a normal to heavy wetter?  I love the sized sbish fitteds.  Nicki's and rumparooz make the roomiest covers I think, so plenty big to go over a fitted.

Sheesh, FOUR?! I have two small for travel, and two of the pail-size on the registry. Does that get to the four total, or do I want more of the big ones?

Oh definitely not enough! We only have two right now (in addition to two pail liners.. is that what you mean by pail-sized?)... and it's not enough. I'm going to the fabric store today to buy more zippers to make more wet bags!

  • I had four (2 smaller and 2 medium sized) homemade ones when ds2 was in daycare. Now that he's not in daycare I use the 2 smaller ones for the diaper bag and have added 2 planetwise pail liners. My two medium ones have been "confiscated" by dh to use in his gym bag.

  • Oh, man. So how many of these in what sizes do I actually need? I kept reading two small (by which I mean these in medium, the real small ones seem pointless) and two large. I'm assuming I don't really need 12 for one kid, right @TJ1979??

  • And how do you home-make a wetbag? Is that PUL fabric sold in stores? I've never looked. I have been making my own wipes, btw, double layer flannel and some terry cloth ones from the uglier towels in the house. Aiming for 50?

  • Wait, y'all! She said baby will not be in DC, so she might not need as many.

OP, I have a changing station upstairs and down, so I keep two bags for each station, plus smaller wet bags for going out. Personally, as expensive as wet bags can get, I'd start with the minimum you think you'll need and be prepared to order more later. You can always use a plastic bag in a pinch.

  • Diapers I think should be on your list to try: Blueberry Simplex, Thirsties OS pockets, Totsbots Easyft v4, Rumparooz. Some of these are more expensive so it's nice if someone else is paying!

Jane saves the day again.  Reading fail on my part.  I thought baby WAS going to a DC.

You still want at least two big wetbags or two pail liners for each changing station.  Preferably three for dry time.  Then I'd plan on 2 or 3 medium wetbags for the diaper bag if you think you'll be the type to be out of the house for longer than a couple hours at at time.

  • From my registry, people bought some prefolds, a few pockets, a couple wet bags, and a diaper sprayer. The diaper sprayer isn't needed right now, but I'm glad I have it already and it was a thoughtful gift. I definitely need to use my registry completion discount to get some more prefolds, covers, snappis, etc. I mostly found it was a tactful way for people to find out not to buy sposies for us. (we only got two packs, which I'll keep)
