I Know I Shouldn't Have, But...

At lunch yesterday I had a good amount of chicken liver mousse. The only problem is that I'm pregnant and shouldn't be eating it. I feel sooo guilty! I'm due this week for a CS, so it's probably not a big deal, but still. . . .DH didn't have the best reaction (though he apologized later), which totally annoyed me (his initial reaction, not the apology). Now I'm all nervous. Crap! No real question here; just looking for reassurance.

  • My expertise is confined to my 5-second Google search just now - but IMO, you are totally fine. The risk appears to be too much Vit A. I bet your doctor would tell you that it would have to be a lot of Vit A to harm the baby, and that chick liv mou only contains so much (i.e., not enough). Then s/he would probably tell you just how much you would have to eat/Vit A you would have to consume for it to be an issue. I highly doubt it's even worth an emergency call. Just ask at your next appt.

  • Oh, and tell your DH to CTFO (chill the f out). Stress is bad for the baby.

  • I was anemic during pregnancy and had liver (with doctor's ok) from time to time on my rotating schedule of high iron foods. For the record - the studies that showed possibility of birth defects were based on about 10 oz of liver daily in the first two months of pregnancy. My guess is you had what like 4 oz once in last month. Yeah, not even a blip on the freak out radar.

  • I had no idea this was even an issue.
  • I'm with @MarlaSinger&‌. I think you're fine. When I was pregnant I even went so far as to eat a turkey sandwich on occasion. Gasp! The listeria! Lol. Babies are tough, even in utero.
  • Thanks ladies! This is totally what I needed!!
