MamaRoo/Rockaroo vs. Swing, etc.

Hello all, I searched our feed and I didn't find this as a previous post, but please correct me if I am wrong....

Has anyone purchased a mamaroo or a rockaroo instead of the typical infant swing/bouncer, etc? We don't have a ton of space, so I am trying to figure out if it is a worthwhile purchase, which it could be if it can replace multiple other swing things. (Sorry for my terribly scientific explanation... I'm new to the lingo). My main attraction to it is the space it saves.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

  • I'm kind of wondering the same. If it's worth the extra money I will happily buy one instead of a separate bouncer/swing. Hopefully someone has bought one and has some insight :)

  • I'm thinking the same thing. We have a swing from when my son was an infant a year and a half ago, but I'm registering for a mamaroo so we can have one upstairs and it not take up a whole room.
  • We used a swing, but never had or needed a bouncer. I wanted to love the Mamaroo, but the motion was just too subtle for our daughter. She wanted serious swinging action, so we found the Fisher-Price Cradle-n-Swing to work best for her. The FP swing has a big footprint. There's a Graco swing which we also used and which has a smaller footprint, but also a more prominent swinging motion. Think it was the Graco Glider LX. It was ok. Liked the FP swing best.

  • I've only heard good things about the Mamaroo so that is what we have registered for and plan on purchasing if not given for a gift! I'm kind of second guessing it now though!
  • My friends all used mamaroos and are split down the middle on love/hate. I registered for a rockaroo because I like the newer functionality.

  • Thanks for the advice... if not a rockaroo/mamaroo, which I suppose I haven't ruled out, does anyone have a suggestion for a swing/bouncer with really small footprints?

The rockaroo is quite a bit cheaper than the mamaroo... is there a big reason why?

  • I believe that there were a couple of threads where mamaroos where mentioned and moms left their reviews on it. We bought one for baby girl. I was blown away by its features. I love the design, swinging modes which imitate real movement and the ability to play any kind of music by connecting your iphone to it. I plan on using it with baby girl from the start and I just hope she loves it. If not, we'll just hope that future kids do.
  • I was skeptical of why people love them. I watched a few videos on them and now I want one. Stalking the local yard sale pages to see if I can find a used one that's in good condition.

  • At first, I was super excited to buy one myself, BUT then I started reading the reviews. It is true that about half of the moms were split down the middle. One mom commented that her baby could only use it to 3 mos. I am so torn. I dont think anyone will buy it, but I am putting it on my registry anyway! I want to sit in it after some days at work....
  • All my kids hated the swing. With our lat DD we got the mamaroo and she loved it. We will be selling our swing and bouncer, because we never use them..
  • I have a friend who bought one and her daughter hated it. She had other friends who's kids loved it... I think it is pretty subjective. What one kiddo loves another loathes.

  • Just buy it from a place with a good return policy.

  • Lurking from may15.

I got a used mamaroo on craigslist and dh coworker gave us a swing for free (we're having twins) . so between the mixed reviews of babies loving/hating them ( as w any swing or bouncer) im hoping one of the two like it. We shall see, its pretty nifty and I wish I could fit in it lol

  • They're always selling them used for around $100 in my local moms forums.  I think that's the route we're going, although I just got an email about the 2015 and apparently it can be controlled from your phone!  Sounds cool, though potentially unnecessary.
  • Everyone I've talked to has said it's amazing. I'm super excited about it. Hope this kid likes it.

  • We had a swing last time but for space sake we are going to try a mamaroo.  The FP swings are GIANT

  • We're going with the mamaroo. It looks pretty awesome and the reviews on giggle.com are great.

  • I'm skipping it, most of my friends babies don't like them.. But I think it's a great gift to add on the registry. Keep the box/ gift receipt and return if it doesn't work out :)

I've been reading the reviews for the rockaroo and they are pretty bad on amazon. I'm also looking at a mamaroo. I wish I could find a decently priced used one, but locally the asking price for used is in line with the new price of a 2014 classic.

Btw the 2015 models have Bluetooth.
