February 2013 Moms

Kind of scary, but also kind of hilarious

Today my mum and I were at a mall with Nicky.  We were in a department store elevator, trying to decide whether to go up or down a floor.  At the last minute, my mum, who was pushing Nicky's stroller, said that we should stay on the same floor where we were  So  she pushed Nicky out, and right then, the doors closed really quickly.  She jumped back, leaving Nicky OUTSIDE the elevator, while we were INSIDE it, going down a floor!  I admit it, I laughed at the absurdity of the situation, then as soon as the door open ed again, I sprinted out and up the escalator.  The good thing is that the elevator is hidden away in a little alcove, so he was totally unfazed by the time I got there (it was probably only about 30 seconds).  He hadn't even realised he was alone there.

I'm not telling DH about it, but my mum and I sure had a good laugh, once we had Nicky back!

  • Today at the hospital, I had AJ in the giant double stroller and M wanted to walk.  She is usually good at holding my hand and walking and staying with me, but she suddenly takes off down a narrow corridor.  I knew I could not chase her with the stroller, so I just left AJ and chased her down...it wasn't very far, but there were a couple corners so I couldn't see him...  I do not understand how people take a whole gaggle of kids out...they must be very well behaved.

  • I had a similar thing happen last year when I had DS in the stroller and DD wanted to take the escalator.  I was trying to help her and maneuver DS's stroller onto the escalator, and the next thing I knew, she was going up the escalator and DS and I were at the bottom.  Luckily a good Samaritin saw what was happening and helped DD get off the escalator safely and waited with DD until DS and I got up.  And luckily I could see DD the whole time.  But yes, it about gave me a heart attack!

  • I would have freaked out! I was at the airport today with the kids, having anxiety that the same kind of thing might happen with one of them darting onto the train between the different wings of the airport and then the doors closing.

So glad that your DS was okay and had no idea what happened!
