Does anyone have the City Mini GT Double stroller?

Deciding on what to do for baby #2. Baby wearing was not a big hit with DS and I am a bigger woman and it wasn't comfortable for me either. With that said, DS isn't old enough to go on all day trips without riding in the stroller. I currently have three:

Chicco travel system - used with the bucket seat until baby was about 5 months and then ditched it.
BOB- Use this full time now
Umbrella Stroller- for traveling in the airport and on vacations only

I am pretty sure we need a double stroller. We really like our BOB but I am not sure the BOB double is the path we want to go down considering the size and weight of it!

Does anyone own the City Mini GT double? Any opinions? Any other double stroller I should look at (needs to accommodate a larger toddler and an infant). We have checked out the sit to stand ones and I am not sure that's going to work when DS#1 gets tired and wants to snooze.

Re: Does anyone have the City Mini GT Double stroller?

  • I read a million reviews and wanted this, but I knew it was on sale for $380 or something and then couldn't find it for over a year for less than $480 or so, and never saw one for sale on craigstlist.  So instead, we bought a used Phil and Teds Classic.  It is very nice because we fit down the aisle in the library and on narrow sidewalks in our neighborhood since it is a line.  It is a pain to fold tho, but pretty easy to fit in the car and manage.  I would recommend it.  Many people love the City Mini GT double tho, so if you can swing it or find one used, and don't go a lot of narrow places, go for it.  FYI, if you get that and also want to try a sit and stand for narrower trips, you can find joovy ultralites and joovy regulars on craigslist very easily and for not too much at all.

  • I own the City Mini single and would go GT if I had the chance again.  I really like the GT Double and would have probably gone that route if I had waited longer.

But.  I was desperate for a double.  I have the Baby Trend Double Navigator (I think.  I have the double front wheels) and I so love it! I paid $100 used and it was worth every penny.  The only down side is that thing is freaking HEAVY.  I think it's 40 pounds without babies.  But, its got the biggest under carriage basket that I have ever seen! I can put my full diaper bag in one side, with the seat lying down, and I have plenty of room to move around, plus an empty basket!  That is huge for me.  I really don't like how Baby Jogger redesigned the under baskets a few years ago.  They are so hard to get anything in and out of! And they are small.

My recommendation is to take the biggest diaper bag you have, and load it with all the stuff you might need for two babies, then test strollers.

  • I have a joovie, it got really good ratings, and was less than a City. I didn't think it was too bad, then I pushed my niece and nephew in the city. I was amazed at how much better it was. It turned so much smoother.

We have an older Phil & Teds Sport stroller, and love it. My biggest fear was having a gigantic double, and this has been great! It has different configurations and I've been able to use it since day 1 with the newbie and toddler (baby lays flat in a 'cocoon' type holder, with toddler in seat above), and soon we'll transition to toddler in front, baby under configuration. Love LOVE it!! Got it used for $100 on fb.
Doh, I paid 225 for mine and then I realized they didn't give me a part and so I had to order it for $12 more.  It did come with some good accessories.

Mine is older, either '08 or '09, so it wouldn't have been worth it to pay more than that, imo. I also had to buy a set of hinges, the cocoon, and a cover for when it's in infant/toddler mode, so I spent about $75 to pimp it out lol.
I bet mine was older too--I didn't know it, but when I saw the kids at the craigslist exchange, they were at least 9 or 10.  Ours came with the baby cocoon, an off brand cupholder, and some side bags that the people said they loved.  We do not have a cover.  What did you get?  AJ is 4 months, and he has ridden in his car seat with M below, in the cocoon with M above (we also had to buy the hinges for this), and in the 2nd seat with M on top.  He was fine snuggled down in the second seat, even at 3 months...I did the slight recline, covered him with blankets, and he napped...I had meant to do the cocoon but didn't bring the hinges.
  • I have the GT Double and I really like it. I can fit it into the trunk of my Accord without having to disassemble anything, it wheels and turns like a dream, has great sunshades, and provides enough separation between my kids that they don't annoy one another.

Drawbacks are that it's heavy (but most high quality doubles are), and that the storage underneath is somewhat limited and not the easiest to access. That said, we do still manage to fit our diaper bag under there without an issue if we access it from the side.

I strongly considered the double BOB before we bought this stroller. I didn't buy it for 2 reasons: 1) I would have probably had to take the wheels off to fit it in the trunk (deal breaker for me), and 2) the fact that it comes to a triangular point in front meant less foot room for each of the kids, thus greater chance of fighting over space or irritating one another deliberately as they get older.

  • @lc&jw point about the triangle point is another thing. With the two single front wheels like the GT and the Baby Trend that I have, gives it a bit more stability and space. E climbs all over my double with no issues, whereas with my single mini, he almost tipped it a couple of times — am issue that never even occurred to me COULD happen. Just another example that shows my son is a crazy, wild, destructive daredevil! Lol

  • We have the city mini double (not the GT) and we love love love it!  My now 6 year old is finally getting too big for it (he doesn't care and sits in it anyway) and it is perfect for a baby even when they are infants because it reclines all the way back.  I especially like it because it fits in doorways, it is light (for a double) and its super easy to fold!
