Pregnant after 35

Hello nesting!

With my first pregnancy, DH said he never saw the nesting instinct kick-in because I was always like that anyway, even before the pregnancy. I never confessed to him the day I scrubbed spots off of all the doors sometime during the 3rd trimester. I didn't get that last burst of energy right before delivery because I was induced. But I definitely noticed, as the pregnancy progressed, stronger and stronger urges to clean and repair things around the house which never bothered me before.

With this pregnancy, my 3rd trimester started yesterday, and with it came a sudden desire to do the same thing. Last time, it was like turning up dimmer switch. This time, it went from OFF to ON almost overnight. I felt like the nausea and fatigue from trimester 1 carried straight over into trimester 2. Then when trimester 3 hit over the weekend, BOOM.....I boxed up my entire home office to turn it into a bedroom. Then I cleaned half of the house. That's more than I've been able to do in a whole week up until this point in the pregnancy, and I got it all done in a few hours.

Re: Hello nesting!

  • lol I'm 2nd trimester and I feel like I"m in that mode now!  I'm baking and cooking and cleaning and organizing. It's nuts!  I've been too tired and sick to do anything and my husband has done most of the cooking and I haven't had a desire to cook ever!  Friday I made home made mac and cheese that was awesome.  Saturday morning I made home made sausage gravy and biscuits. Homemade soup and bread for dinner. Sunday I got up and made cinnamon rolls and homemade rolls for dinner. lol  I can't stop!

Then I moved onto organizing.  I cleaned out every cabinet in the kitchen and tossed anything that was old and expired or not used.  Orgnaized all the stuff.. wiped everything clean.  Yesterday I cleaned out my daughter's closet.. boxed up some clothes.. etc.  lol  I can't stop.

    Nesting exists.. That's for sure!

  • I am already there, I think, but I have a unique situation.  My fiance' and I live with my sister.  We've been planning to buy our own place this spring.  Houses are still expensive in our market, and we don't want to rush into something we don't really want, so we've been talking about staying in our current situation (maybe) until the baby is three months.  It's not what I want to do, but I think it is the smart thing to do.

So now I plan on turning the spare room (which is a catch all/tv/gaming room) into a nursery.  I can't wait to get in there tonight and start throwing stuff out, fixing things, shampooing the rugs, etc.  It is killing me to be at work right now, lol!

My fiance' and I are definitely in purge mode.  I love it!

  • At only 6 weeks I have absolutely zero energy but 100 percent desire to clean and organize our entire house. Last night I had a meltdown because my h left his clothes all over the bedroom floor (hello hormones). I really really hope I will get both the energy and time to do some purging at some point because it's so hard with a toddler.

  • @Guennie - I'm right there with you. We have a 1-year-old and I've had the desire, but not the energy, to clean and organize the house through the entire pregnancy. My energy finally started to get better last week, but now I'm big enough that I have some mobility issues. (There's only so many times I can bend over and pick up DS, or his toys). However, DH and I worked out a system and I took frequent breaks. It got done. You'll get your stuff done too.

Glad to hear it. Makes me feel ok for a lot of couch time - I'm 7 weeks now.

    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April

  • In the past week, I've been to the Container Store, Target, and Ikea, to buy containers and storage furniture.  I find it kind of humorous.  I keep having to talk myself down.  Like, "those overfilled dresser drawers haven't bothered you in years," and so on.  I don't have a ton of energy.  It doesn't make any sense.  Oh, and the piling up recycling is driving me crazy!

Yeah, at 9.5 weeks I have been a couch potato for several weeks.  I can't wait for the 24/7 hangover to end.

  • With my first pregnancy, a little spot of peeling wallpaper in the master bath drove me crazy. I wanted to do nothing more than go peel it off in a moment of rage. But I had to tell myself the options if I peeled it off: (1) Look at a wall with partially-peeled wallpaper. (2) Remove it correctly and look at a wall with no finish. (3) Remove it correctly and deal with painting it myself. (4) Wait for DH to deal with it. I did #4 and am very thankful now.

With this pregnancy, the master bath is irritating me again. You see, the wall that I mentioned above is an accent wall. The other 3 walls have a textured paint and tile. And the textured part of the wall by the sink has toothpaste splatter all over it. I have NO idea how to clean toothpaste splatter off of a textured wall. And even though it wasn't important before, it is of HIGH importance. It MUST be done to get the house ready for baby. Do we need baby clothes? Nah. We need to clean toothpaste off of walls.

  • @mattandlora I am right there with you!! Lol!! I must tell you the last week, I am have been a cleaning fool!! I have also been working on my home office / craft room. It needs to be a bedroom again. I am just not sure what to do with everything that is in there. Plus I like it being my craft room :( The tax right off is nice for my business. Lol! I have been baking, getting ready to make freezer meals, and making baby items! The last couple of days I have had to slow down because my legs are so achy. Ugh! Oh and I have a spot in the wall downstairs that needs fixed! It is half patched and I wish my hubby would finish it. Yep, it got there from a moment of rage. I put my foot in it. Lol! I think the spot was bad anyway. I really did not kick it hard. Lol! I think it must have been weak because it was by an outlet...I do not kick the walls anymore. Lol! :)
