Moms of PT boys

HALP!

My oldest son just *got* PTing, so this is new territory to me. We started a few weeks ago and everything has been great! No accidents, and he's day trained aside from naps. My problem is that he pees on the floor... every.time. We have this seat that sits on our toilet, as well as a potty chair that sits on the floor. No matter which he uses, he pees right over the top. So, while I enjoy having sparkly clean floors and walls, I do not enjoy cleaning my floors and walls multiple times a day. We've tried to get him to hold his weenie (typing it out is only marginally weirder than saying it out loud lol) down, but most times he doesn't. He is terrified of standing while peeing. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA

  • I push it down for him until he can grasp the fact that he needs to push it down. I think he enjoys watching the pee go everywhere.

  • Yeah, we just emphasized pointing down while peeing. He'll get it. He didn't stand until a few months after he was trained.

If I sit him back farther on the potty seat, he naturally leans forward and his penis points down.
I do this too, but sometimes he pushes so hard to get the pee out - I am afraid he is going to squeeze out a turd and its going to squish everywhere. TMI? Sorry!   :))

    Thanks ladies!!

@kelbel527 what seat do you have??
  • I can't find the actual seat anymore but it was similar to this one: https://www.target.com/p/the-first-years-cars-sounds-potty-seat/-/A-13460078?lnk=Rec|pdp|viewed_viewed|pdpv1

Ours was Diego theme (we let Brody pick it out) and it sits on top of the toilet, I linked the one above because it looks like the splash guard is about the same size.

Later we eventually just got a new toilet seat that has a built-in kids seat, but the splash guard was pretty non-existent, which was fine later when he was better at aiming.

  • I agree boys are gross.  Grant started by peeing on all four the rugs i have in our master bath. needless to say when he is trained, it's new rugs for me!

I think the big thing is sitting him back far enough on the potty (all the way back be it on the little potty or a seat on the big potty) as that seems to help get it into the potty.  If he is back far enough he wont have to use his hand to help him aim down...  we haven't had any acidents as long as he is back far enough. its when he sits up that messes are made.

I can only imagine the mess that is to come when we start the whole standing!!

  • I apparently have no idea how to potty train a boy... as evidenced by the fact that my husband had fits of hysterical laughter when I told him how Cruz knows to only use TWO squares of toilet paper when he pees.  "What in the world does he need toilet paper for???" I think were his exact words.  To dab the extra drops at the end, DUH!

Right now, we just push it down for him, and I agree with @shiggybop about scooting him farther back and having him lean forward. I actually asked the daycare providers in his classroom if they had to aim it down for him, and if so, they are underpaid.

  • The potty seat I bought was specifically recommended on TB (Parenting) back in the day for being good for boys. I have this one

And I agree that standing causes way more problems in our house. Sit for as long as he will!

  • I'd emphasize "aim for the water".

Our potty ring also came with a splash guard.

  • Well then. I am officially terrified to have a boy one day.

TBH, I don't even know why I opened this.

  • The further apart his legs are while sitting on the potty, the more his penis will point down.  DH taught me that.  It works!

Lol to the two squares. Apparently when Ethan first started using the potty, I would dab his penis with the TP and say "doo doo doo". Now he tells people he needs to doo doo his penis. Oops.

I agree with PP, spread the legs wide and have him lean forward a bit. ethan use to rest his elbows on the toilet seat :-&
