Pregnant after 35

PGAL brain

My PGAL brain is in overdrive. I keep thinking something is wrong because I don't have symptoms yet. I can't remember when I started feeling nausea last time but I thought it was pretty early. I'll be 6 wks tomorrow.

I KNOW every pregnancy is different, I KNOW a lot of women don't have symptoms in the beginning, I KNOW all this...just humor me and tell me when your symptoms kicked in and you really felt pregnant. I have another week until my next ultrasound and I'm driving myself crazy.
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.

    So sorry
  • Hugs, PGAL brain sucks. I started feeling queasy around 6 weeks but didn't actually vomit until 7 weeks.
Even after a good ultrasound with a heartbeat I still worry when I feel better.

  • PGaL sucks out loud!  It will last a while, unfortunately. :(

This is my 3rd healthy pregnancy (6 losses) and I still deal with it at 35 weeks.  Time has eased it a bit, but still I count her kicks and have a mini freak out if it's not as many as the previous day.

The 1st trimester, for me, was torture because while I had symptoms, I didn't have much nausea so I would have anxiety everyday.  PGaL makes you over analyze everything.

I know that probably doesn't make you feel better.  I just say this because it's normal and you're not alone.

I didn't really start feeling pregnant until I couldn't fit in my pants anymore, around 8 weeks.  Hang in there girlie!!

When is your next ultrasound?  And how did your last u/s go?  Did they see the sac, heartbeat, etc?

  • Thanks so much for the support!!! My first ultrasound was 5wks 1 day and all we could see was a tiny yolk sac. My next one is a week from Tuesday so we should be able to catch the heartbeat as I will be 7wks 1 day. Fingers so crossed.

I was nervous with my daughter but for some reason it's worse this time. I don't know why.

  • It sounds like they saw what is normal at 5 weeks.  The next one should be a heartbeat and that will be a very positive milestone, as they say that after a heartbeat is detected the chances of mc decrease greatly.

I'll be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way as you wait out this 9 days!!  Please keep us updated and continue to post for support!! ...hugs...

  • I'm sorry you're feeling this way.  I'n not sure if it will make you feel better, but I also had no symptoms early on, and never had any nausea/vomiting at all.  Best wishes at your next U/S, and as another poster said, try to take it one day at a time.

I'm sorry you're feeling anxious but I'm glad you're reaching out for support. That's why we're here. I've had one suspected loss 15 yrs ago and I don't really deal with PGAL brain. However, that first 8-10 weeks of pg was torture so I can only imagine what adding PGAL brain on top must be like. :(

FWIW, this pregnancy my symptoms started later than last time at around 9 weeks. I might have felt a few twinges/cramping before then but no nausea or fatigue. And no breast tenderness until just recently at 22 weeks.

Hang in there until your next u/s. Until then, sending you lots of love and light.

ETA: My midwife offers heartbeat checks whenever I want. I just call to warn that I'm coming and a nurse gets out the Doppler or rolling u/s cart real quick. I did it once during first tri and it really put my mind at ease. If you think that might help, you could see if your practice offers it.

  • It is SO hard to deal with PGAL brain. I totally get it.  I try to tell myself that I nothing I do can make that happen.  It's not within my control.  Believing that makes me feel a little bit better.  It's hard.  I actually don't feel anything around 6 weeks. I usually start getting nauseous around 7-8 weeks.  But initially I feel exactly like I did before.

    Good luck to you!

  • You guys are so awesome. Thank you.

Something kicked in with my hormones last night. I suddenly had a total meltdown. I could physically feel everything going haywire. I am 6wks today so that sounds about right. I'm going to take it as good news that things are progressing. Trying to stay positive!

  • My only early symptom was sore bbs. Other than that I was fine until between7 & 8 weeks. Then it was like I was hit by a freight train. This is my 11th pg (6 losses) so I completely understand the worry and the what ifs.
