As I sit up cuddling my sweet baby boy, I wanted to share my joy (and some photos) with you all!
I had been having contractions of varying intensity every 5-12 minutes since Tuesday. A girl goes insane after awhile! On Wednesday, with contractions every 5 minutes, we told my Mom to catch a flight and we went to the hospital. However, I was only 2cms dilated so they sent me home, telling me to come back when it picked up.
Thurs and Fri were tough due to discomfort and lack of sleep from contractions, and suffering guilt over making my Mom fly down too early. I called and went in on Fri to discuss at what point it was worth considering augmenting with pitocin. We agreed that I would try to tough it out to Monday (39w6d) to see if that was enough time to progress on my own before checking myself into the hospital to end the "prolonged latent stage" I seemed to be stuck in.
Friday afternoon, it seemed the contractions had died off mostly. I took a lovely long nap, had dinner with my Mom and DH, and cuddled up on the couch to watch a movie. Contractions started back up, but just like period pain.
After we went to bed at 11pm, my contractions kept getting stronger. By 12:30pm, I was groaning in discomfort. I woke DH at 1am, he woke my Mom, and we headed to the hospital. En route, we nearly hit a deer and then got pulled over for having high beams on into incoming traffic (because of the damned deer). The cop was a prick, and it took everything in me not to yell at him as I had a contraction while he was lecturing my husband that having a baby was no excuse to break the law. We thankfully were allowed to leave quickly without a ticket.
Once at the hospital, I was quickly brought in and checked - I was at 5cm with painful contractions every 4 minutes so they admitted me. So many mixed emotions at knowing I wasn't leaving there without giving birth to my son!
The process to get the epidural took over an hour from when we arrived at the hospital. The nurse blew two veins with her attempts at IVs. The contractions were really painful, and DH and my Mom became breathing coaches, cold cloth face wipers, neck rubbers, feet massagers, and ice chip feeders. I was truly lucky to have them both helping me!
The epidural was easy and painless to get. However, I was scared about it, so afterwards while I was still dealing with painful contractions before it kicked in, my blood pressure dropped in a fight-or-flight type reflex. Really, really low. My nurse tells me 63/40. My vision went black. This has happened to me several times before, but clearly the doctors and nurses were worried. All of a sudden about 15 people flooded into my room. However, as soon as they laid me on my side, it started getting better.
After that, it was mostly smooth sailing. My contractions stalled out due to the epidural, so they put me on pitocin. It quickly did the trick and I started feeling ready to push around 9:30am. I labored down until 10am willingly, but then had to struggle to keep from pushing until the doctor arrived at 10:30am.
I had been warned about the "ring of fire" and was scared. However, my experience was that I could totally still feel which muscles to push with but had no pain at all. I was joking and laughing between each attempt at pushing. DH watched from behind the doctor, and he kept excitedly telling me how close we were. My Mom held my head and encouraged me to push with each contraction.
My little boy popped out at 11:09am, healthy as can be and with very minimal tearing done to my lady bits. He's a perfect 7 lbs 5 oz and 20.25 inches. We did skin to skin, delayed cord clamping, and then DH cut the cord. My baby nursed right away, though I fumbled at how to hold him and how to feed him. But we made it work.
We have been loving our hospital, doctors, and nurses. It's been a lovely experience (except the food, but DH and my Mom keep bringing good stuff). After an hour session with the nurse who has training as a lactation consultant, we have a good routine down for now on feeding. Our son Ryan has been eating like a champ.
I am so calm with it all, so relaxed and happy! Totally biased and think he's the cutest baby ever. DH is also amazing, truly! He's been getting me water and snacks as I feed, swaddling and cuddling Ryan. Everything is going great!

Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive. Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

November 6th 1st Appointment with RE: diagnosed with severe MFI
Testing to try to determine a cause & possible treatment for MFI
CD 3 blood work for me. RE does not want to repeat my HSG/lap at this point,
but may want to before moving forward with any fertility treatments.
After seeing the uro, DH is currently taking lots of supplements and clomid to try to boost his count. We will have a repeat SA in February to see if it works.
Follow up SA numbers are: Count= 4 million, Motility= 40%, Morphology= 1%
Uro wants us to have another follow up SA 5/9 to see if we see further improvement than we are back to the RE to make a game plan.
SA 5/9/2014 Count: 12 Million, Motility: 60%, and Morphology 2%. We will be doing iui #1 in late June

I seriously kept thinking as my contraction intensified, "Don't tell the cop to fuck off, don't tell the cop to fuck off..." But seriously? There were a gazillion deer on the side of the highway - high beams were the only way to see the damned things. Hitting a deer on the way to the hospital would have been awful!!!
