2nd Trimester

Experiencing shortness of breath and really achy all over

Hello,

I am almost out of my second trimester and have done really well thus far. I do have a heart murmur, which has been fine also thus far. For the past couple of days I have had shortness of breath. I have also only gained 3 pounds but they baby is perfectly healthy and growing accordingly, from what my OB says :)

I am thinking maybe due to how tiny I have stayed and him growing that it could be causing shortness of breath? My back also hurts a bit but i figured it's maybe another growth spurt in there and my body prepping itself for change. It is my first pregnancy/child.

Has anyone had anything like this before? Thank you in advance for any advice !! I really appreciate it :)

  • IFinTN said, but in the mean time try drinking water. I have had shortness of breath early on with both pregnancies and it's always worse when I'm dehydrated.

    This is a question

    For

    Your doctor
  • Obviously something you should speak to your doctor about but I totally get you just wanting to hear if others have experienced the same. Hope someone chimes in for you!
  • I agree with PP and the doctor comment. However, I can also tell you that I haven't gained much myself and I can also get quite short of breath... Combination of asthma and baby pushing organs up to make room for growing :) I think we all have back pain too!

That being said, you should still get checked out if you're worried.

  • I just went through something similar and it was because my thyroid levels were way too high. Definitely something to call your provider about ASAP.
  • Shortness of breath is a really really common side effect of pregnancy.  Hormones have a lot to do with it early on, size of baby and location later in pregnancy.  Has nothing to do with your weight gain.
