New RE update and Hysteroscopy question

HI Ladies!

I finally saw my new RE and I love him.  I am bummed he is an hour away but I'd rather drive the extra 45 min for someone I trust.  He already mentioned things that I was unaware of (I may have a unicornian uterus, he saw potential polyps, I have low reserve) that my other doc failed to mention. I am already so much more encouraged.  He wants to explore more with an HSC.

BTDT ladies, what can I expect from HSC? No laparoscopy just the hysteroscopy.  I haven't scheduled yet (waiting for AF) but wanted to see what you thought of it! Thanks!

Is an HSC the same as an HSG?

@Frenchteachermama‌, no this apparently focuses on uterus and checks for polyps. Etc vs the fallopian tubes and dye test. I had a hell of a time with hsg so I'm curious what others have experienced comparing the two

  • So this is another term for SHG? Where they just shoot the water in your UTE and do the U/S to check things out? It's very simple, much easier than the HSG IMO. Sorry the new place is so far, but I think it's worth the drive if you feel more comfortable with your Dr!

    Good luck with everything

This. If it's like an SHG it's just a bit uncomfortable and only lasts a few minutes.

  • Thanks ladies! I think it is a little different.  I heard it is worse than HSG. I did find a website that helped explain with patient "testimonials":

  • Oh! Hysteroscopy! I've never seen it abbreviated. Sorry I've never done this, but I know lots of ladies on the board have experience with it, so hopefully you can get some good responses. I would change your title to actually say Hysteroscopy, because I'm not sure this abbreviation is widely used.

    Good luck!

  • I had a d&c and hysteroscopy done at the same time in September to make sure everything was ok before I started on the clomid this time. They did it as an outpatient procedure at the hospital. I had some cramping, but nothing severe. They said I would have a better chance of getting pregnant right after, but obviously that did not happen.

    Good luck with the procedure!

  • Ok, I had to go back and look in my charts, and apparently I did have this done way back when I first started seeing my RE in 2012. I had it done in conjunction with a D&C to remove retained calcified placenta from DD2's pregnancy (Har Har we thought this would cure all our IF issues...fast forward 2 years and here we are! Still.) Anyway, for me it was an outpatient procedure with general anesthesia. I had some minor flow and then spotting after. No major cramping that I can remember. Good luck!

  • I am glad you found someone you are more comfortable with. I still drive a bit to my Drs even though there are a bunch in between me and the office I use. I like the people at the one I see. That makes all the difference sometimes.

I had a simple one over the summer and only had some minor cramping afterwards. I felt completely normal the next day.

I had one in conjunction with a D&C in October and was crampy for a couple days.

If you had a bad experience with the HSG just mention it to your Doc and they can give you some suped up advil. Good luck!

  • The hysteroscopy itself isn't bad.  I was put under twilight anesthesia for all of mine, though.  Recovery depends on if they do anything more than look around during the hysterosopy.  I have had cyst aspirations with two and a polyp removed during one.  The polyp removal caused some bleeding rather than the normal spotting I had after the one with just the cyst aspiration.  I recommend taking a pad with you for afterwards.  Also, find out if they will use anesthesia of some sort.  Good luck!
