April 2015 Moms

Is anyone experiencing backache already?

I've been having backache and the moms around me think it's a bit early. Just wanted to know if I should be concerned...

    How far along are you?

Eta: have you spoken with your doctor?
  • I have backaches also. I'm 24 weeks but I had a bad back before pregnancy. DH gives me a back rub almost every night.
  • Yes, but my gallbladder currently hates me.
  • Good grief, yes! It's killing me. Its like I've strained EVERY muscle in my lower back. It suuucks.
  • Yep, 27 weeks, heating pad, yoga ball, stretching, it won't go away, hurts all the time
  • Yes, got my first one last night.  The only good thing was that it happened after scrubbing our master bath, which prompted DH to clean the guest bath so I didn't have to :)

  • I've had backaches since the 1st trimester. Sitting at work is when it bothers me the most. Getting up and walking around and doing stretches helps for about 10 minutes.

  • I can't remember when it hasn't hurt during this pregnancy, it great when combined with hip pain. [-X
  • Mines been hurting from pretty much the start. I discovered in a couple of my ultrasounds that lil bit was facing my spine and had curled up across that way. They told me it would explain some of the back pain I had been experiencing.

Oh yes!! Front, back and side to side.I'm wondering what is to come in the near future. ..
  • Backache was my vey first pregnancy symptom. It never went away, just getting worse. But that's normal. I do some stretching to make it better and cry to my husband when it gets unbearable.
  • Sitting at work all day kills my upper back. By the end of the day I just want to curl up in a ball, especially when I'm in long meetings for two hours at a time and can't get up and move.

  • Yep! I've got scoliosis with Harrington rods so back pain is a part of my daily life. I don't see it getting better. I've had days recently where I literally can't get myself out of the bed. My back just shuts off. I go to PT twice a week and get weekly massages.

PS-love when I can use literally and actually mean it.
  • Mine started at 16 weeks. Went to the chiro and has been great since. Your back can start hurting the minute you are pregnant.

I have scoliosis too! Between the back pain and the sciatica pain, I'm not sure which is worse.

Sounds like you need to hang around different moms.
This. Every person is different when pregnant. However, backache is very common and can start as early as first tri! Hope you get some comfort soon. I haven't been able to help mine, just carrying on with it sadly.
  • Yep, crack my spine at least 6 times a day , but it doesn't help, it does get better when I take my bra off !!

Physical therapy has helped dramatically with the sciatica but the back pain is often times debilitating. I knew it would be bad and I was prepared for it; however, I wasn't prepared for how mentally exhausting the pain would be.

    Good luck!
  • I've had lower back pain since the beginning of pregnancy. Sciatica kicked in sometime in the first trimester for me. I started having pelvic pain about a week ago as well. All completely normal.
  • I've had slight pain off and on for a few weeks now but it really kicked in 3 days ago, just a couple days shy of 28 weeks. Luckily, I work in a spine clinic and got a consultation with our physical therapist today. She gave me some stretches and exercises that will hopefully help alleviate the pain. Sciatica is a bitch!

  • My back has been bothering me for weeks. It has gotten worse over the last week but I have a 14 month old that I'm constantly picking up and carrying around, so that might be making it worse for me.
  • My mid back kills if I dont do yoga in the mornings.  I find I also need to stand up from my desk a few times an hour (which isn't an issue due to constant peeing).  I take a warm bath in the evenings to help it if it cramps up at night.

Same here. I am used to dealing with upper and lower back pain, but this new middle back pain (from sciatica? and sciatica?) are a new sort of hell.

  • I have been having back pains since the first tri! I have been seeing my chiropractor weekly since 8 weeks lol. But I've noticed it starts earlier for me with each pregnancy.

    Back ache, nothing new

As long as you're medically cleared, possibly consider prenatal massages.  They're keeping mine at bay

  • I've had such hip bone and back pain lately especially around my ribs. My job as a therapist requires sitting on the floor to work with kids and driving long periods of time to places. They're actually making me work more than 2x my usually work schedule right now so I'm dying! I have no time to walk or stretch my legs. Vent over :(
  • I'm 27 weeks & I have a backache since the first trimester OFF/ON pain.
