Ferber Method

I haven't seen a thread specifically about the Ferber method, and I personally have some questions so I thought why not start one.

A little background on my LO: she's been sleeping 3 hour stretches at night in her rock and play. When she wakes up, I side lay nurse and she falls asleep in about 5-7 minutes. She's over doubled her birth weight at 4 months, so I'm not really concerned about weight gain and don't think she needs these little "snacks" she gets every 3 hours.

Here's my question- I want, so badly, to get her in the crib and sleeping consistently. I want to try the Ferber method but I'm a bit confused on some things. I know many of you ladies have sleep trained with this method already. How do I handle her middle of the night wake ups once she sleeps her first stretch? (Assuming I've gotten her to fall asleep in her crib using this method). Do I nurse or handle it the same way as putting her to bed?

Sorry this is so long, I just thought since I have these questions maybe some other ladies out there might have them too. Thank you in advice for any advice/insight :)

  • You CIO to get baby to go to sleep for the night, but if she gets up in the MOTN, you can still nurse her to sleep. The idea is that once she learns to self-sooth to sleep, she will also start doing in the MOTN.

That's the idea, at least. We started sleep training at christmas and while she falls asleep within 5-10 minutes at bedtime, she's still up 2-3 times a night.

Okay, that makes sense! Thank you!
