Help me with boy names

Because we're not finding out the gender ahead of time, we have to come up with both a boy name AND a girl name.  We've narrowed it down to 2 girl names, but we haven't made much progress on boy names.  Can you give me some ideas?  We need all the help we can get!

Re: Help me with boy names

  • I like Benjamin (could be Ben or Benji for short).  I'm trying to think back to names I really liked before we decided for sure we'd stick with an "M" name....

What about any family names?  your DH, fathers, grandfathers?

What kinds of names do you like?  trendy/unique names? or classic names?

How we picked is I wen tot the SS website and got the top 100 names of last year, and made a spreadsheet.  I gave a copy to Steve and we each separately rated each name Love It, Hate It, or OK.   Then I combined the spreadsheets and discarded all of the names that either of us said "Hate It" to.  That ended up leaving us with like 15 names.  We chose from there.  :)  Of course we weren't looking for some wild unique name.  I wanted a pretty "normal" name for a boy.  And Ben is hardly unique as a name, but it suits him.  :)

  • We also had Ethan on our list, and I liked Cole too. There are a lot of websites that are helpful too!

Dude, what's not to like about Mordecai? :P

How weird, I just went to look at that site again and I swear since I last visited it (a few months ago) they've changed the.... slant... of the names. There was always a diversity of them on there but there used to be a lot of more common names. Hmmm. Funny though.?

  • Here are a few that I can think of that I like:

Aiden, Nicholas (Nick), Patrick, Colin, Isaac, Sam, Cameron, Brandon, Christian

I'm sure I could think of more, but that's it for now. ?

    haha!

    I love "B" names:

    Brennen, Brenton, Bradly

  • I like: Gavin, Brady, Preston, Weston, Micah, Parker, Colby, John, Jer'Magesty!
  • A bunch more ideas for you :)

Ryan, Aidan, Brayden, Noah, Benjamin, Sean, Evan, Ewan, Jake, Mac, Logan, Oliver, Egan, Liam, Eli, Levi, Jack, Brendan, Ian, Max, Gavin, Adrian, Avery, Ira, Leif, Emmit, Graham, Grier, Finn, Cayden, Carson, Keiran, Keenan, Grayer, Elliot, Elijah, Samuel, Nathan, Hunter, Isaiah, Gabriel

    HA HA!!

Owen is a cute name, too bad about the nose breaking though.  Someone might turn you in for that one.  ;)

If you like the "en" ending to go with the "en" ending in Wilson, I would like Ryan Wilson.   Or even Nolan.

In the non-"en" endings... I like Alex, Andrew (Andy is so cute for a little guy I think but it was my first boyfriend's name so it seemed creepy to name a kid that), Max, Joshua, Jacob (Jake I love, but it's my friend's dog's name so we had to bail on that one - when will people stop taking good people names for dogs/???)...  I tend to like less trendy names though... so like the whole Aiden/Brayden/Jayden names are out for me.

EDIT:  I'm adding Jonah to my list too.   And I was just playing with that site that Anne pionted to and Cameron and Brenner came up.  I sort of like those.

But wow. Use that tool and select "quirky" as one of your choices and you can get some strange ones.  :)

  • If we had a boy he was going to be Connor.  But that's partly because my favorite name Jackson was taken by a good friend of mine.  :)  I also like Ethan as well.

  • I have a list going of ones I come across, but DH veto's everything!  We'd like an irish name.  Not to crazy, but of course the ones he likes are all the SUPER popular ones (ie Aiden)  So my list consists of:

Liam, Colin, Caleb, Reid, Owen, Ian, Grahan, Quinn, Cameron, Carson, Craig, Evan, Finn, Garret, Gavin, Blake.   We both LOVE Aaron, but it's my ex's name darn it!

Of this list, he likes Liam, Colin, Caleb, Quinn, Garett, and Gavin.

What are your girl favorites?????  We still have Corinne on our list.. to call her Cora after my G. Grandma.

My favorite girl name is Gabrielle, and DH's favorite is Autumn. ?I think I can pressure him into agreeing to Gabrielle, heehee.

I also LOVE the name Simone, but DH hates it. ?He also hates Ruby, Claire, and Avery, which were also on my list.

I agree....I like Benji too - and our kids are SO not going to know that there's a dog named Benji.

  • Ryan :)
    Dylan
    Hunter
    Austin
Nicholas  (Nick Wilson sounds like a star quaterback!)

What about the names you had before you found out Evie was a girl?  Dean and Reid?

IMO - Preston Wilson still doesn't work!  lol

  • DH doesn't like Dean or Reid, unfortunately. ?And I still HATE Preston. ?I wish I liked it, because it would make DH so happy, but I really, really don't like that name.

I like Nicholas, Nathan, and Austin, but DH doesn't like any of those names, either. ?At least he's trying to think of names instead of being stuck on Preston, like he was last time. ?My favorite is Gabriel, but DH doesn't like that name, either.

  • Preston isn't my favorite in general, but Preston Wilson doesnt' work for me at all... it's a mouthful.

  • My absolute favorite boy name is James... but no nicknames like Jimmy, Jim, or Jaime.  Gotta be the full name, James.

Some of the boy names I also like are less trendy names: Nicholas, Christopher, Jack, and Ryan.  Unfortunately, I've known too many guys with most of these names so I'd be less likely to use them.

I knew someone who named her baby boy Hunter James and I thought that was really nice!

My sister has 2 boys and a 3rd boy on the way.  Just like Nancy_Drew, they wanted Irish names (for first names).  Her 2 boys are Declan Joseph and Brendan Allan.  The third boy will be Gavin, but they haven't decided on his middle name yet.

  • Yeah, Preston WIlson sounds clunky to me. ?Not that I'd like it if we had a different last name:).

I want something that's not too out there, and nothing that sounds made up. ?I also don't want anything super popular or trendy (Aiden, Jayden, Braeden, etc. are definitely out).?

  • We liked: Caleb, Colton, Bennett, Nathaniel, and Graham. I vetoed Preston because it made me think of the guy on Jackass - not good.

    I like Nathaniel

  • OK so based on all of these responses, do you have any new ones you like?
    image
  • It's not about what I like, it's about what DH likes:). ?So far I've come up with names a whole list of names and he's vetoed them. ?He does like Gavin, Landon, and Evan. ?Because I vetoed his favorite name, I told him that he can pick the boy name as long as it's something I can live with, and I can live with all three of those names. ?

I don't understand the obsession with Preston. ?He told me that he has wanted to name his son Preston since he was in high school. ?I said, "What, are you a girl? ?What guy comes up with baby names in high school?" ?He did not appreciate that:).?

  • imageMissBlush:

Thats too funny =)   I asked my dh, he definitely didn't think of baby names in high school =P   but he also likes the sound of Preston Wilson...  so he may not be a reliable source...

  • Steve came to the table with Benjamin as a name well before we were even talking about getting married.  So my weird DH apparently thought about kid names too.
    image
  • My friend's husband was not very helpful about the naming process.  She had one she loved, and he said "no" but didn't offer other names that were any good at all.  He even looked at a bunch of Irish names, said he liked some but didn't know how to pronounce them.  Useless.  :)  So she just stopped talking about it.  And on the way to the hospital he said "so I guess it'll be Maggie huh?" and she got her way.  :)
