Gia vs Mia

We are considering Gia as a baby name which is not very common at all, but worried that it will get bundled into the "Mia's" which is ultra-popular / trendy. Not to mention lots of "ia" names are popular (Sophia, Olivia, etc). We are trying to avoid a top-20 baby name- do you think Gia sounds too similar to the top 20s and we should stay away??

I've never viewed Gia as a standalone name. I thought it was a nickname. I would consider Gia "trendy" and an attempt to sound chic.

I considered Gianna as well but thought it sounded a little too formal. If Mia can be a full name (not nickname) seems like Gia would be ok too?

There are a lot of names that end in the "uh" sound... Nbd.

It is actually not so unusual where i am from, but i always wait for the rest of the name. It sounds so incomplete.

I don't really consider Mia a full name either.
Formal isn't a bad thing. You could call her Gia unless you're mad. And baby girls grow up. You want her to have a name that will grow with her.

Mia is much more feminine and sweet. I love it.

Honestly I can't give an exact reason why Mia sounds complete and Gia doesn't but I just can't see Gia as a full name. Maybe because I know plenty of girls named Mia but the only Gia I know is short for Nigea.

I actually like Gia. I prefer Giovanna or Gianna but I wouldn't side eye it.

Last name is italian and starts with "M"- so another reason Mia might be too rhymey but Gia (or variation) could be ok because of italian heritage. Thanks for the feedback all
