Pregnant after IF

~+~+2nd Tri Check In 1/7~+~+

edited January 2015 in Pregnant after IF

Once again, I am sorry for posting so late in the day.  DH and I got new iPhones on Monday and it has been a very long, frustrating process getting everything backed up, updated, and whatever else!

So much love going to CarSaidYes.  Many thoughts and prayers for you, your husband, and your sweet angel Ryan.

Continued thoughts, prayers, good vibes, healing energy, positive mojo, or whatever else floats your boat to @AMShark and her two sweet babies! Congratulations on hitting V Day!

If anyone would like to take over the check in, please let me know.  I'll post my last check in on 1/14, and then I have to kick myself out ;)

This is a weekly check-in for PAIF members in their second trimester. You can feel free to join at 14 weeks and we will bid you an excited farewell on your way to 3rd Tri after 27 weeks.

If there are any newcomers that would like to be added to the list, post below and include your EDD.

- How far along are you this week?

- Any appointments or other updates?

Also, please let me know if I have your “team” listed correctly or if it needs to be updated.

QOTW: Since I am having an issue that I need help with, let’s see if we can help each other :)  Is there anything you are trying to do that you could use some input on?  Let’s share our problems and see if we can find someone with the answer!

@AMShark‌ the thing with the pictures is that they changed something on the new phones...they have iCloud Drive and some photo thing that's still in beta.... Idk-I miss SIM cards! It was so simple!

I highly recommend stalking the the bump breastfeeding board. I got a lot of good info just reading posts. Kellymom.com is a fantastic breastfeeding resource! I think la leche league has videos on YouTube...I may be imagining things.. But watching videos of what a good latch looks like is helpful if you can't make it to a class. You can also see the difference in sucking patterns babies have from starting fast and then slowing down when your milk lets down.

I never read it, but I hear good things about the book 'the womanly art of breastfeeding'.

I was thinking about this - I need to look a little further into what is offered at this hospital.  (I was registered at a different hospital, offering slightly different classes).  It looks like these course may be more expensive, but maybe they are that much more involved.  I'll also have to clear it with my doctor first, but could be a good option.

  • QOTW: Anyone have any advice about swelling (hands and feet). I've just noticed it in the past few days. Normal? Or too early? It's pretty bad - my feet are killing me and the bones in my ankles disappeared today.
I don't know from personal experience but I think those compression socks/stockings are supposed to help with ankle swelling. I also know that your OB can "prescribe" them that way it's covered by insurance (they are pricey). Other then that, just the standard stuff like watching your sodium intake ( beware of prepared soups, they are salt licks! And soup is so good right now in this cold weather) and elevating your feet at night

  • @pblge - 70 g protein sounds low to me - I had a daily target of 60 before I got pregnant.  (Which, actually takes a lot of effort - even for meat eaters).  But, then again, do the guidelines that you are referring to take you size into account?  DH's protein target was higher than mine (mine's high now, but, you know, twins & all), largely because he's bigger than me.

I was going to suggest whey protein for the easiest boost, but you beat me there.  You can add little bits of protein with almonds or other nuts or nut butters.  Do you eat dairy?  Greek yogurt has more protein than the non-strained varieties.  Or a plain hard boiled egg can be a good source.

Snack on edamame... Or substitute your morning oatmeal for quinoa.

  • @sunshinedaisies000‌ just to be clear, don't get socks. Get full, over the belly maternity stockings. Knee high compression during pregnancy is going to set you up for uneven vein compression :( no good for you, your veins, or the swelling.

  • @kmc84‌ thanks for the check in The news from Car yesterday hit me pretty hard I think in part because we have the same due date. My heart still is breaking for her and I wish there was a way to make it better. @AMShark‌ my OB recommended The Mothers Guide to Breastfeeding which I cannot find. Assuming maybe she meant The New Mothers Guide to Breastfeeding? @pblge‌ I don't track it per say but I make sure I eat a Greek yogurt every day which has 12g in it and almonds, string cheese, almond milk, etc to get enough in. I do eat meat just not a huge meat eater and I don't eat eggs. They make pasta that has extra protein in it so maybe that will help. AFM 19w1d. We had our anat scan on Monday and baby is doing great. Was in downward dog position for the whole scan so they couldn't get a look at the face/palate so we do another scan in 6 weeks for that. We will find out gender this weekend. I cannot wait! QOTW: not exactly a question but I put DH in charge or researching baby monitors since he is techy. He came across this: https://www.sproutling.com/ Anyone heard of it? It's brand new and I'm not gonna lie even though it's pricey it looks awesome! And I think it could really be the only thing you need (no separate sound or video needed) since it tells you ample info about baby (like if they are awake, stirring, etc)
I love the reviews on Cricket's Circle, I plan to double check everything there before i register!

  • @katemonster1  ^^^What she said^^^   Although to be honest, I've had to sleep on my back a little more than I'd like in order to deal with my cold.  I just propped myself up on a lot of pillows.  And I don't think I felt uncomfortable sleeping in any particular position until I was closer to 18 weeks, so you may still be ok to do whatever.  Now I get uncofrtobale in any position so it's a fun game of switching sides every hour, on the hour.

    Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility

  • @pblge‌ I'm a vegetarian too. Like others have said, Greek yogurt is really great. Also quinoa, oats, peanuts/peanut butter, eggs, some imitation meats (although I'm quite selective), beans, cheese, cereals like kashi, and sometimes soy (tofu, soy milk, etc. but I try to limit this ). I'm not counting daily but just try to get as much as possible.

For example, this week I made lentil soup and I think I might make vegetarian chili with beans and quinoa next. Perfect for these cold days!
Thanks! You might try adding it up sometime, as this sounds almost exactly like my diet. On my best days I'll get up around 70, but it's really hard to do it every day without some kind of protein supplement. It always amazes me how little protein things actually have in them. A serving of oatmeal with about 1/8 c of almonds on top, for example, isn't even 10 g. Quinoa is a little bitter, but it's not much. I looked up an 8 oz steak by comparison, which is large for a home serving, but small for a restaurant, and that has 50 g!!! It's a big difference!

I am 18 weeks today. I started to feel the babies moving earlier this week and it has been very interesting. The little girl's movements feel like someone is thumping me from the inside and the little boy's movements feel more like he's tickling me. Their personalities are showing already! My A/S is on January 13th. I can't wait to see my little ones again.

@CarSaidYes‌ Oh my, an infection? My boss lost a baby at 20 weeks due to an infection as well. That's actually good news because it was an external factor. They went on to have 3 kids! All healthy pregnancies! Again, can't say enough how my heart breaks for your situation. Please do keep us posted as much as you'd like and I hope the labs provide you with some helpful information!
