Once again, I am sorry for posting so late in the day. DH and I got new iPhones on Monday and it has been a very long, frustrating process getting everything backed up, updated, and whatever else!
So much love going to CarSaidYes. Many thoughts and prayers for you, your husband, and your sweet angel Ryan.
Continued thoughts, prayers, good vibes, healing energy, positive mojo, or whatever else floats your boat to @AMShark and her two sweet babies! Congratulations on hitting V Day!
If anyone would like to take over the check in, please let me know. I'll post my last check in on 1/14, and then I have to kick myself out ![]()
This is a weekly check-in for PAIF members in their second trimester. You can feel free to join at 14 weeks and we will bid you an excited farewell on your way to 3rd Tri after 27 weeks.
If there are any newcomers that would like to be added to the list, post below and include your EDD.
- How far along are you this week?
- Any appointments or other updates?
Also, please let me know if I have your “team” listed correctly or if it needs to be updated.
QOTW: Since I am having an issue that I need help with, let’s see if we can help each other
Is there anything you are trying to do that you could use some input on? Let’s share our problems and see if we can find someone with the answer!

I highly recommend stalking the the bump breastfeeding board. I got a lot of good info just reading posts. Kellymom.com is a fantastic breastfeeding resource! I think la leche league has videos on YouTube...I may be imagining things.. But watching videos of what a good latch looks like is helpful if you can't make it to a class. You can also see the difference in sucking patterns babies have from starting fast and then slowing down when your milk lets down.
I never read it, but I hear good things about the book 'the womanly art of breastfeeding'.

Continued well-wishes for @AMShark and your LOs! I read the Womanly Art of BF book, and didn't find it all that helpful at this stage. It seemed like a good thing to have around once there's an actual baby. LLL does seem to have a good website, and I've found good tidbits there, in addition to Kelly Mom. It's seems like one of those things for which you need good basic info, but may not be ready for the detail until you meet your baby. That was my sense, anyway. For baby books, the Dr. Sears one seemed like a really good resource, although there's some attachment parenting stuff that not everyone will like (they recommend bed sharing, for example). I've also got Happiest Baby on the Block on my shopping list. Not sure what you're looking for in birth books, but to everyone else The Birth Partner is one of the best books I've looked at for any of these topics.
@kmc84 - I'm no help with the phone. I switched from Macs to PCs when I started grad school and nothing was compatible. I've seen grown to hate all things Apple for the problems their products cause my students (and the price tags!). You probably weren't looking for that opinion, were you? ;-) And congrats on (almost) hitting third tri! Are you using 27 or 27+6 as the cut-off? I can't figure this out.
@sunshinedaisies000 - Congrats on a great A/S! No advice on the swelling, aside from regular exercise to keep blood flowing. My yoga teacher recommended lots of ankle rolls.
@ky29 - Congrats on a great a/s!!
@daydreamernyc - Still sending ((hugs)). Pregnancy after IF is stressful enough without your complications. Sorry you're dealing with this!
AFM, I had a little scare this week with a tiny amount of spotting that caused major freaking out. It didn't look like regular bleeding, just a few drops of blood, but then I was hyper aware of what I think was just the usual amounts of pressure and sensation in the pelvic area. Nurse said it was likely just a burst blood vessel, which would make sense as I've also been getting tons of minor nose bleeds. I see the midwife team to which we're thinking of switching for the first time today, so I'll ask about it. I haven't gotten any exercise in days, partly because of the fear, so I need to fix that ASAP. We also started our natural childbirth classes this week and have an appt with our doula tonight, so it's been busy! Just taking advantage of this month off from classes.
Here's a question for you ladies: How much protein are you aiming for? The childbirth education told us to shoot for 100 g, and my jaw hit the floor. I'm vegetarian, and that just seems impossible. Other places say 70, which seems much more acheivable, but still hard. Is anyone here counting this out? I only do protein powders (high quality soy and dairy free) in smoothies, and it's too freaking cold for that right now. Maybe I need to suck it up!

All WelcomeI was going to suggest whey protein for the easiest boost, but you beat me there. You can add little bits of protein with almonds or other nuts or nut butters. Do you eat dairy? Greek yogurt has more protein than the non-strained varieties. Or a plain hard boiled egg can be a good source.
Snack on edamame... Or substitute your morning oatmeal for quinoa.

Long story short, I went in for observation because I haven't been feeling well (I've had episodes where my hearts pounds,I feel like I can't breathe and get dizzy) and it turns out I have PIH as my blood pressure was 160/100 and my usual is around 128/70. AFM: no question really, I think I'm just starting to get overwhelmed and anxiety is starting to kick in again. It's a combination between too much time to think now that I'm done with school and interning and now working with a bunch of women I know pretty well who are asking me all sorts of questions about the pregnancy. I think a part of me is being weary and I shouldn't be, I need to enjoy it.
@kmc84 ugh it's probably your appleID which is a nightmare. I was in the Apple Store for 4 hours trying to transfer all that stuff to my current phone. Did you used to have mobile me? When they did away with it and converted to appleID you were prob asked for a new username and instead of using your old one you made a new one (which is what I did) so all of your stuff might be under your old username. Try scheduling a call they might be able to help you before having to go in to transfer it all manually...
@JimBobCooter - I struggle with the reality of being pregnant and wrapping my head around something happening we tried for so damn long to work.
@AMShark - so happy for you and your babies!
@CarSaidYes - sending you so much love.
AFM- waiting for the a/s on the 14th. My mind is fucking with me the last few days and I'm trying to let the anxiety go. 19w4d here. We bought our cribs over the weekend (great deal at kohls) but I refuse to do anything with them until after Wednesday. I think I would be better if I could feel these babies, but no such luck yet.

The news from Car yesterday hit me pretty hard I think in part because we have the same due date. My heart still is breaking for her and I wish there was a way to make it better.
@AMShark my OB recommended The Mothers Guide to Breastfeeding which I cannot find. Assuming maybe she meant The New Mothers Guide to Breastfeeding?
@pblge I don't track it per say but I make sure I eat a Greek yogurt every day which has 12g in it and almonds, string cheese, almond milk, etc to get enough in. I do eat meat just not a huge meat eater and I don't eat eggs. They make pasta that has extra protein in it so maybe that will help.
AFM 19w1d. We had our anat scan on Monday and baby is doing great. Was in downward dog position for the whole scan so they couldn't get a look at the face/palate so we do another scan in 6 weeks for that. We will find out gender this weekend. I cannot wait!
QOTW: not exactly a question but I put DH in charge or researching baby monitors since he is techy. He came across this: https://www.sproutling.com/
Anyone heard of it? It's brand new and I'm not gonna lie even though it's pricey it looks awesome! And I think it could really be the only thing you need (no separate sound or video needed) since it tells you ample info about baby (like if they are awake, stirring, etc)

CarSaidYes, I'm so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts.
I am currently 17w4d with an estimated due date of 6/14 with one little peanut. I can't wait for our A/S which is scheduled for 1/26. It seems so far away, so I'm hoping time will fly!
