2nd Trimester

stomach bug

Hi everyone,
Im 22 weeks and this is my first pregnancy. This morning I woke up throwing up and had a really bad stomach ache. I called labor n delivery and the nurse told me to just drink plenty of fluids and if I cant keep anything down to go in and see a dr. I tried eating some crackers and chicken noodle soup and also drank some gatorade but my stomach instantly rejected the soup. I tried eating soup again a few hours later and so far I've kept it down. Ive been told I cant take any medication , any one know anything else I can take for the pain? I have like zero energy and im scared this can hurt my baby. I did just find out my grandmother passed away so I dont know if its a bug or maybe the shock of the news is taking its toll.

Re: stomach bug

  • Hydration, Tylenol, rest

  • The fact you're already keeping stuff down is key. It only becomes an issue if you go more than 24 hours with no fluids. Keep taking SMALL sips of liquids, broth, and don't eat anything that will upset your stomach for a few days. Stick to the BRAT diet- bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.
  • Also ask your dr about zofran for nausea if you want
  • One stomach bug isn't going to affect your child.  I've had 3 during my other two pregnancies and as long as you start keeping fluids down by the end of the day it's fine.  My last bug took like 6 days to get over and I lost a couple pounds and doctor wasn't worried.  You should be able to take tylenol or some nausea medicine.  Did your OB give you a list off approved meds?
  • If you can manage to keep liquids down, try pedialyte. Even though it's marketed for kids, it has a ton of electrolytes likes sports drinks for rehydration but less sugar.
    Hope you feel better!
