Congratulations and welcome! Last year, a 36-year old friend of mine shared her postpartum room with a 46-year-old new mom of a healthy boy.
Have you found the whole process of going through pregnancy very different this time around? Has a lot changed in 22 years in terms of prenatal care or is it pretty much all the same?
Welcome and a big congrats! I'm sure you were surprised! I'm 46 too close to 47 but I used donor eggs I'm 33 wks...your right behind me!
ME:46 MH:44 DE IVF 2014
Met with RE 4/11.
2 IUI's BFN. DE best option. Switched clinics to do
"shared" program.
Had to retake all tests and a mamm that put me behind and then on a DE waiting list for 12 months.
Picked a donor!! (10/13/13) Got matched. Estimated transfer in December. After 2.5 years of patiently waiting I will finally cycle....can hardly believe it. DE cycle got cancelled. One of her tests came back positive. Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)
DE IVF #1 (4/26) BFN DE FET #1 (6/4) BFP! Beta 1=339 Beta 2=852 Beta 3=9957 EDD 2/22/15!!
My pregnancy this time has not been pleasant unfortunately. I was really sick the first trimester and thought I would get a break the second, but that did not happen. Now the third is getting close to unbearable. I keep trying to look at the positives. My baby sits really low so I constantly feel like I have a couple of bricks strapped to my pelvis. I cannot get comfortable most of the time in any position. My legs go to sleep when I stand or walk for more than ten minutes as do my arms. Sleeping is a whole different story. I have many of the same symptoms now as I did 22 years ago but they are a lot worse. I will make it!
Prenatal care does not really seem a whole lot different. I thought that I would have been seen by my doctor more because of my age but that has not been the case. The only thing different really is the testing available. They are much more advanced, including the ultrasounds. I only had one with my first pregnancy but have had several so far.
JimBobCootergive me pause about what to do after our baby girl comes. (This is the first for both me and my fiance. He is 43, me 42.) We're no sure we'll want more kiddos after this one and, while I feel like it's unlikely lightening will strike twice and I'll get pregnant again, you two are proof it can happen a few years from now. I know we'll have to take precautions if we decide we are one and done.
Hope you can find some comfortable position soon. Hang in there!!!

Mine is an oops- I didn't get back on the pill fast enough. If you decide you don't want another make sure you take necessary precautions because you just never know!!
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
Congrats and welcome! Sorry you're miserable this time around. I'm in the same boat, have been pretty miserable the entire pregnancy.
I, too, only had 1 u/s with my 17 yr old and I'll be having my 9th u/s tomorrow with this one! I had a normal amount of visits but doc made me start going weekly at 32 weeks (instead of the norm at 36 week) and I have an u/s at every weekly visit.
I am 42 and this is my 8th child. My oldest is 16. I think the advances in prenatal care make things more worrisome! It used to be I would just have to trust everything was ok until my ultrasound at 20 weeks. Then trust they saw everything fine. Now there is tests for this and tests for that. You send out blood work and sit around and wait for results. I wait nervously for the time when they will perform the test and even more nervously for results. I know the testing is suppose to ease your mind but I swear it just causes more worry for me.
