Trouble TTC

I'm Back - IUI Update

So I did my intro a week or two ago - and I wanted to give an update on everything.

For the first time since we started this whole thing we think my wife ovulated. It took femara on days 3-7, follistim on days 5,7,9 and menapur on day 11. At the 10 day checkin she had 2 follicles at 18.5 and 15.5, so they did one day of menapur and had her trigger on day 12. Today was the IUI, which I'm told went smoothly. We've read the IUI success is about 20%, so a 1 in 5 chance of one of the 2 eggs latching on.

SOOOO, here's my question(s) for those of you who have been through this - my wife was told not to work out too hard (dr specifically set the limit at 150 bpm), she was told to expect cramping and feeling bloated. But is there anything else we (she) should watch out for? This is the first time for us doing an IUI so right now we're just googling machines.

Thanks ahead of time.

Re: I'm Back - IUI Update

  • Congrats! So glad she O'ed with the combo of meds this time. :)

I've literally never been given any instructions as to lifestyle between IUI and beta, except for this cycle when my ovaries overstimmed. I was told to expect bloating and discomfort, and avoid physical activity because the ovaries were enlarged.

Some women choose to follow diet and lifestyle choices they would make if pregnant, while others wait until they have a HPT+ to make changes.

The reality (which can be frustrating, but also a relief) is that your wife really doesn't have the ability to cause or prevent pregnancy success at this point - it's really up to chance. Whether it works or not won't be attributable to any choices she makes in the TWW, unless she does some some serious abuse to her body.

  • I am glad the IUI went well. Fingers crossed that it works.

I was also never told to do anything specific, and this last time the nurse said to just go about your day like normal. I am usually a little careful about exercise after it, but otherwise I don't do anything special. She may have some spotting, cramps, and bloating, but they will go away.

  • Thank you about the heads up on the spotting. I'm sure that would freak her out a ton if she didn't know.
  • Glad to hear she responded to the medications. I'm sure a huge relief for you both. RE told us the day of the IUI and day after no heavy lifting, no strenuous (HIIT) workouts and have a relaxing day. No red meat or raw seafood.
