SAHM Check-In

Hi ladies!

I think it's time for this again! Hopefully we all made it through the holidays and are getting back in the swing of things. I'm not going to do the list of questions, but please feel free to tell us all about your successes, challenges, goals, projects, etc. We'll see where the conversation takes us.

I talked to @meghan14 a couple weeks ago. She's doing great -- just busy. Her LO is mobile, she had family in, and there was some kind of laptop crisis! Hopefully she'll come back to us on F14. I, for one, miss her!

Re: SAHM Check-In

  • @caer Totally agree! It was two weeks of constant entertainment and people for LO. The first week we went to my mom's and there were six grownups doting on LO. Last week my H was home until Friday, so LO got tons of attention from him. Now it's back to our normal routine, and yesterday was rough. It was so cold and windy, and I didn't have any pressing errands -- so we didn't go out. It was just a long day, and by the time DH got home, LO was a fussy hot mess and I just wanted 14 seconds of quiet/not being touched.

I'm hoping it gets better each day, and I hope my LO's teeth come in so my sweet baby can come back.

Is there anyone else you can use to babysit? We recently left LO with a college student. She had about 30 mins before he went to bed, he took his bottle fine, and then just slept.

  • I got nothing in terms of play... LO doesn't play with toys. I kid....kinda.

But we did rearrange furniture so he can get to the window. He loves to look out at the neighborhood. This will occasionally lead to some independent play. But his neighborhood observations take up some time, and I can just sit or get something small done.

Oh I just thought of something else. I left probably 1/4 of his toys downstairs. I'm going to try to go down there a few times a week. That will help with me getting bored, and letting L see some different scenery.

We started doing this again too. I had stopped for awhile because all he did was bolt for the stairway and climb up, but today I blocked it with some large objects and he was happy to play with the different toys for quite awhile. If we're stuck inside all day, we go down there mid-day to break it up a little.
LO loves the stairs! I let him climb up. Takes up some time, burns some energy!

  • I'm dealing with mostly challenges right now. Being on my own sucks, and I'm only on day three. I'm pretty sure Logan is teething because he's been super clingy and snotty and drooly. I'm about ready to sell my toddler to the circus. She's just being an absolute turd. She refuses to eat her dinner, she refuses to clean up her toys, and she's constantly yelling "I want, I want, I want!"

On the plus side, I actually got the toddler to use a public toilet today, which is a first. She is also going to the bathroom without me having to ask her to, so it seems like we're making some progress.

@JammersC‌ where are you in ohio? It's slipping my mind and making me crazy.
    @armfruit, Columbus. Where are you?
Oh duh! Dayton. So we pretty much get all the same weather. When you mentioned that above I thought you were closer.
I wish I were closer ... I'm the lone regular bumpie in central Ohio. Oh well.
I used to drive through Columbus when I drove home from Illinois. I always always always stopped at Starbucks in Hilliard.

    ETA or maybe Dublin

I've been struggling too. Lo Haas been really fussy and dh hasn't gotten home the last two days until she's in bed.I hope it's finally done teeth...I can see the bumps...

I also started planning lo`s party even though it's two months away. It's going to be in Cincinnati so I need a little extra time to coordinate everything. It's going to be at a pizza place. Plus I want to bring all the decorations I make down with me this month and next month so I have less to forget up here.
Dh has been driving me nuts over lo`s eating or lack there of and how small she is. She is following her own curve and isn't super tiny (16 pounds 4 Ounces) and I'd meeting milestones early.but his stressing makes me stressed.

Em's 11.5 months and 15lb 13oz....we've been trying to break the 16lb mark for weeks now!
  • Quick check in. Christmas break was actually hard. I was out of my routine and it made me cranky. A few times it caused issues with DH and I. No good reasons really, which makes it more frustrating. We ended on a good note though so hopefully he will take time off again since he still has 10 days to use before March or he loses them. So as much as I miss DH being back at work and having night classes 4 nights a week this semester, it's good to be back in my own routine.

I'm a bit frantic as I'm leaving tomorrow for Washington DC to see family. My brother in law is being promoted in the Air Force. There's a whole ceremony shin dig at the Pentagon and we're doing a blitz of sight seeing including a White House tour Saturday, then flying back home Sunday.

LO is mobile and crawling up 2 steps now. Walking is a ways out for us still but he's pulling himself up to things. Still no babbling/talking so I'm getting anxious for our 1 year appointment which is still a month away. He's social so I don't think it's an autism thing, but still, a speech delay can still be more complicated than it seems. Thankfully he is a giant (wearing 18m sleepers and 12-18 m clothes), reflux is almost gone and overall a happy healthy boy.

    Happy new year ladies!
  • @Joybaby5 we moved to cubicles at the holidays and it makes a world of difference! We also put his new books on a bookshelf and he just sits over in a corner and "reads" sometimes. It's so cute!
  • Sorry for the P&R the other day, ladies, but I wanted to pop back and say thank you. I appreciate the sounding board. I've never been on my own with the kids for more than a week, so this is pretty daunting.
