Obviously you cannot force anyone to do anything, but I would tell the grandparents it's a rule if they are going to be spending any extended time around the baby. Luckily all of my in-laws and parents and family members were either already vaccinated or got the shot when asked. Why would they want to put a baby at risk?
This is exactly my point. My MIL is being selfish. Her whole reasoning is she just doesn't like getting a shot. To me its like get over it your acting like a baby. She had this minor surgery and is making such a big deal over it it disgusts me. I have no sympathy for her or my FIL anymore. Its like get over it and put on your big girl panties. My DH says they live in their own little world and if they continue to act like this their little world doesn't have to include our little one. I could understand if she had so serious health issue or if she was not going to be spending much time but they like the closest to us and would prob be around the baby alot. I'm not making my 91 year old grandmother get it as she just got over shingles and is in remission for cancer so she actually does have a legitimate health reason. Whats really sad though is when my mom and I were talking about it in front of my grandmother she asked us if we wanted her to get it. I told her not to worry but the fact that she cared meant alot to me. My MIL and FIL are lost causes.
My grandparents have tried to put off their Tdap shots and we finally told them that they, along with anyone that wants to be around him or our older DS, won't see LO until we see paperwork that they've done it (they tried lying and saying they got it and didn't). Not saying it's the best approach for everyone, but it's something we're very picky about and it's what we feel is best for our situation. Good luck with whatever approach you take!
