Trouble latching on

hello, my baby is 5 weeks old and he sometimes has trouble latching on my breast :( he gets frustrated and angry and sometimes takes an hour of crying, soothing, anger..etc until he finally gets tired and latches on. He is hungry so that's not the problem. This is frustrating for me as I'm sure it is for him. I don't what to do about this!!!

Re: Trouble latching on

  • So sorry. Breastfeeding is really tough and you aren't alone. I highly recommend reaching out to a lactation consultant. Poor latch can be super painful too. Your pediatrician or OB probably has a few recommendations. A LC helped me a lot. She found a tongue tie in my son which explained a lot about his poor latch. With her help and we did opt to clip his tie, breastfeeding has improved so much.

  • I found a great lactation consultant near me by using the website www.zipmilk.org. That site was provided to me by the lactation consultant I saw in the hospital. Hope you and your LO can work it out! It is very hard. Hugs!
