Drinking more water

I know this sounds dumb, but I would like any tips you have for drinking more water. I probably drink about 50-60 oz a day, and I'd like that to be closer to 100 oz, especially while I'm BFing....for BF reasons and other general health reasons (skin, digestion, etc.). I have my water jug close to me when I can, tried different cups, cold water, flavored water drops, etc. Anyone have any good tips on how to increase my water intake? Again, sorry for an odd question.

  • I drink more water if I'm drinking from a straw cup. I start the morning by filling up four cups (26oz each) and set them on the counter.

I also notice that I drink more if I bring a straw cup in the car.

Good luck. A lot of water drinking is habit :)

  • I have a 32 oz bottle, make myself drink one before I leave the house, a second before lunch, and a third before the end of the work day.
  • Questions. I read that you should drink to thirst when breastfeeding but drinking beyond that doesn't actually help boost your supply or anything like that. So why drink tons of water? Just curious.

Also, to some of you who drink huge amounts, how do you function without having to pee every 5 seconds?
  • Although I have heard that no one quite knows where the 8 - 8oz a day rule came from, I think it's still a better number than no number. I just calculated that I roughly drink 160 ounces...which sounds scary actually... but I do workout a lot and I'm still nursing. I don't feel like I'm drinking too much.

My strategy is I have a 32 oz bottle with a straw. Realistically I probably only fill it to 28...My schedule is this:
    1. I have to drink one before going to the gym when I wake up
    2. 1 bottle during gym / after gym while driving back before nursing (and this one is easy cause I'm usually very thirsty).
    3. 1 bottle before lunch
    4. 1 bottle on the way home from work
    5. 1 bottle before dinner

In addition, I also have coffee or tea throughout the day (probably 32 ounces on average total)

Am I the only one who drinks so much??!

  • I want to take a moment and toot my own horn.

Typically I "drink to thirst" which is 32 oz a day if I'm lucky. The past two days I've been fighting off a cold Lo picked up at daycare and have drank 100 oz!

Crazy how much better water, a shot of robitussin, and some sleep can make you feel.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I like the hair tie idea, so I remember how many times I've refilled it. And setting times I need to finish it by--lunch, end of work, etc. Good tips, thanks again!
