Seeking mommy opinion about toddler

i have my toddler enrolled in gymnastics and she absolutely loves it! Bad part- being 30 weeks pregnant and it being flu season, and my daughter is 2 so the flu is bad news for us! (It's bad news for every one but just elaborating on my situation) anyway, is the flu "epidemic" (in your opinions) bad enough to just take my toddler out until flu season is done? I'm conflicted because she loves it so much and I enjoy taking her... But the flu sounds devastating for a pregnant mommy and 2 year old. Soo... Any thoughts are welcome and are appreciated!!!

Re: Seeking mommy opinion about toddler

  • My husband is currently at home diagnosed with the flu and strep. You can't necessarily protect your LO by keeping them home. The more they are exposed to the stronger their immune system will become. (Not to say you should put her in unnecessarily risky circumstances) just wash hands a lot.

  • You're right! That's how I feel about it too. I just can't help but second guess!! .... And toddlers are like puppies! Lol :) well said. She definitely needs gymnastics to get some energy out. She looks so forward to it too!
  • Yeah, I think that would be taking it too far. I agree with PPs. Just make sure you're both vaccinated and take normal precautions (good hand hygiene, for example.)

Just take extra precautions and enjoy those fun activities out of the house! You'll be home more once the baby arrives so enjoy the one on one time. I do plan to avoid our indoor kids science museum though because it is meant for kids to touch everything and I doubt everything is disinfected often.

  • My 2 year old goes to daycare and a kid's gym. He is exposed to so many germs each day, but that is just part of life. He would be so sad if I pulled him from his gym class.

  • Another vote to go ahead and take her! Practice good hand washing and not touching your faces, and stay away from any known sickness. Other than that, live yo life!!

Agree with others...as long as you both have flu shots and you sanitize and wash your hands often you should keep going.  Have fun!  I am looking at enrolling my daughter in gymnastics soon as well.

Thanks! How old is your daughter? Mine loves gymnastics and gets so excited!
  • I would continue taking her. As others said taking precautions like sanitizing can help prevent the flu. Also, if you stop taking her because you are pregnant she may feel some resentment towards the baby. I could be off base here not knowing your DD but I could see my DD feeling this way. Just a thought!
