Pregnant after a Loss

Second & Third Trimester Discussion

edited January 2015 in Pregnant after a Loss
Hi ladies! This is a place to discuss second and third trimester issues and concerns and whatnot. My pregnancy brain is getting so bad! I just had to ask my H how to spell discussion :/ and it is written just a few lines down on this page.

ETA punctuation and the rest of my thought.

Re: Second & Third Trimester Discussion

  • Hi @footprint! Not too much going on here at 22w2d. I remember from my past pregnancies that most of 2nd tri was pretty tame, which I appreciate. We are moving on Saturday and thank goodness it's during this "energy burst' point of my pregnancy because packing up an entire house while taking care of 2 LOs is not easy! Hope all the other 2nd/3rd tri ladies are feeling well! :)

  • Hi footprint :-h sorry to hear about the pregnancy brain. It hasn't hit me yet.

I have an appointment on Wednesday and PGAL brain is on the lose. My belly is clearly growing, but so scared this appointment may result in bad news. Crazy because there is no indication that things are not going well. I will be 17 weeks exactly.

  • @beemaya83‌ I had a hard time from the beginning of second trimester when my symptoms began to fade some, until I had frequent movement/flutters. PgAL brain is the worst, although feeling dim with pregnancy brain is a close second.

Any relief from your leg cramps?

  • Not much going on over here.  I'm not officially in the 2nd tri according to all ways of calculation (even though I've been saying I was in the 2nd tri for a week now)

Symptoms are all but gone and a nice cold has taken it's place :(

I go back to the Dr. in 2 1/2 weeks and won't have another u/s until the a/s at 20 weeks.  I desperately want to see my LO again. Haven't seen him/her since 8 weeks :(

Actually, I remember your reading your post and being like, oh, yea, when I was pg with DS I had leg cramps all night, thank god it hasn't happened.this time. That night! That night at 33 weeks and some days I awoke twice because of cramps! At least I haven't had leg cramps the entire time. ☺

Sorry about your cold. It's the worst when pregnant. Also, sorry about not seeing your LO for a few more weeks -- the beginning of second trimester is a difficult time of pregnancy.

  • Good luck with your move @mpiemont!

@beemaya83 - ((hugs)) Anxiety before these appts is normal. Hope it goes great for you!

@CreechMommy - ((hugs)) I think early second tri is hard, as there are so few symptoms. Do you have a Doppler? Mine was a lifesaver!

Can we talk about pee/incontinence? I've had some trouble with leakage following sneezing/laughing, which I know is somewhat normal, but isn't this early for those problems? Does it mean I'm going to need to walk around in diapers in another few weeks? If anyone else has had this, what did you do about it? TIA!

  • Good morning ladies!  Sitting tight here at 35w3d with the ninja twins.  I am doing weekly visits now and had my NST, GBS swab and first cervix check yesterday.  It was, um, interesting.  I am only dilated to about 1 cm, so it looks like the babies aren't going anywhere for a while. We have a scheduled csection three weeks from yesterday if they don't come sooner.

Has anyone suffered from pregnancy rhinitis?  I'm trying to decide if that is what I have as opposed to a cold.  It's been hanging on for almost 3 weeks and is congestion and a nasty cough.

I am getting pretty anxious and overwhelmed about everything I have going on so I hope the rest of the pregnancy flies by.

  • @pblge‌ I don't have leakage after sneezing or coughing, but I I do wear an Always pad if I know I am going to be walking around all day because it seems like I will have slow leaks. :/

@kefttsc‌ So happy that you are doing so well and the ninjas are too!!! I haven't experienced rhinitis although my nose is really swollen and I don't look like myself any more. Is the cervix check painful or is it uncomfortable? Make sure you post your birth announcement over here, sometimes I forget to lurk F15.

@shandorfml2‌ Pregnancy brain is so infuriating at the time, but later seems pretty funny, at least to me.

  • @footprint my nose is starting to swell as well, as are my feet, legs and hands.  I've been REALLY lucky that it hasn't been worse until just last week.  I'm hoping that I'll give birth, the swelling will go down, and the congestion and cough will be gone.  The cure of all of my other ailments seems to be GIVING BIRTH, so hopefully this will be cured too :)

The cervix check was no walk in the park.  It wasn't painful at all, but definitely uncomfortable.  It was like he was trying to reach up and grab my neck from the inside!  LOL!  The group B strep test was a shock.....I knew it was a swab in the vagina, but the anal swipe wasn't something I was prepared for.  It was no big deal AT ALL, but just a shock and a bit of embarrassment.

I hope the ninjas stay put until the 26th, but part of me is DONE and wants them NOW.  Ah the joys of the end of pregnancy......

  • @footprint Oh my goodness, the pregnancy brain is so bad! I laugh at myself all the time. I can't remember words, spellings, or what I was just talking about. I sound super smart these days :)

@pblge Yes! I've been having this problem for a couple of months now. So far it hasn't gotten worse as I get further along, but is it going to? I keep waiting for it. So far the only thing I do is make sure to use the bathroom as soon as I have to go because I leak more if I have to go and then sneeze or something.

oh anal swabs...my OB with my angel didn't tell me she was doing it, she did the swab for group B strep, then just swabbed my butt and as she did it said "now just an anal swab". I was like WTF? haha but no big deal like you said, just not expected!

  • Howdy, ladies!  37 weeks +2 here and really feeling it...

I sleep for about 3 hours when I first go to bed, then I have to get up to pee, and I toss and turn for the rest of the night, effectively keeping DH up, also... After we walked the kids to school this morning, DH and I plopped our exhausted selves back into bed "for twenty minutes" - I slept for 2 hours!! So nice!

My lower back aches constantly, pelvic pressure is getting worse by the day, and last night and so far today, my right hip hurts so bad - I can't put weight on just that leg, I can't lift my leg much and it hurts to walk... any experience with this and tips or tricks on how to get this pain to go away would be greatly appreciated! I've never had this and I already hate it!

As controversial as it is, my MIL has insisted on throwing me a shower on Sunday and I'm stressing out that our house is not as put together as I wanted... I wanted built-in bookshelves built by now and they aren't because of budgets, and DH has TONS of stuff he hasn't unpacked yet.  I put it all in one big pile for him, and instead of putting it all away, he tends to stack it outside of the boxes and all around where the boxes are... lol

GBS swab came back negative - WOOHOO!! I was + with my youngest (6 years), so I am very thankful that it was negative this go around.  I start cervix checks on Friday.

BH contractions continue - nothing regular, and not painful, just uncomfortable...

All in all, I'm so ready to meet my sweet Judah, even if we have yet to choose a middle name...

    Lots of ((hugs)) all around!

  • @pblge‌ I'm totally in the same boat! I've had a nasty cold the last few days and every time I cough I have to cross my legs and hope I don't pee. DH thinks it's hilarious. I need to remember to start wearing panty liners, but I'm so tired in the morning it never happens.

@footprint‌ I started blaming stuff on pregnancy brain about week 6 LOL

AFM aside from this cold, which has been kicking my butt, I'm feeling pretty good. I use my Doppler a couple times a week just to check. Baby can be elusive though. I can always find the HB, but a lot of times it's only for a few seconds before I hear movement and it's gone. I'm really hoping I have as good of a 2nd and 3rd tri as I did with DS. I'm definitely looking forward to our trip to Belize next month (although flying that far with a toddler terrifies me). Relaxing on a white sand beach sounds amazing, plus I just want to feel warm for a few days

  • Hang in there @morethansparrows08, it will all be worth it!

@kefttsc Annal swab? Really? I know mine is coming up soon, I think I liked it better when I didn't know exactly what was coming. Oh well.

@creechmommy My ultrasounds were at 8 wks and 20 wks too.  Seems like an eternity, but you can do it.  Can you imagine how crazy women must have been before ultrasound existed? My doppler was a lifesaver, but I understand that it would drive some women crazy.

I am of the camp that pregnancy brain is a great excuse for a whole bunch of things.  It may actually be responsible for a few (like me not remembering my friend's name the other day), but it has taken credit for a whole lot.

Also, the other day I was telling someone about how I wake up at night not having to go pee until I roll over onto my back, but then I really have to go.  He made a great analogy about how it is like rolling a watermelon onto a water balloon.  Makes me smile now when I switch positions and suddenly have to go.

  • @MoreThanSparrows08‌ Around 20 weeks, my hips started to hurt so much when I would wake up. I have moderate arthritis in my left hip, lost half of my right leg, and I thought it was an orthopeadic issue. I happened upon a post on the second tri board from a woman with one leg and really painful hips. I guess your hips start spreading and getting "loose" in the sockets. When I was sleeping they slid into odd positions, stretching ligaments and other junk. I ended up buying a 20 dollar hip brace off of Amazon, and wear it when I sleep and it rocks! I don't know of it is worth it for you so close to the end of your pregnancy.

I'm sorry sleep is so elusive and everything is hurting. Hugs.

  • @footprint‌ I've been experiencing a sharp pain in my lower right side of the belly. I called nurse yesterday and she says it sounds like ligament pain. I woke up this morning with the same pain. No bleeding or anything so I feel relieved. I'm counting down the hours for my appointment today. I just want to see that LO is doing ok.

Have you experienced this? I've never been this far along and I just feel clueless.

I have had round ligament pain (RLP). I have had shooting pains down my legs or, worse through my vagina. When I was pregnant with DS, I was so surprised how painful pregnancy can be. This pregnancy has been easier for me since I have had one normal one to compare it to. But sometimes I still freak out a little when something hurts. I try to think of random pg pain as the same thing as growing pains as a teenager. You're stretching and growing so much it's bound to hurt. Fx that you have a great appointment today and that all is well. Let me know how it goes!

ETA my pg with my son was far more painful than this one. I thinking the stretching and growing for the first time is much harder than subsequent times.

  • I;ve had RLP as well, not very fun, but normal! I've also had sore hips probably since 17-18 weeks, and @footprint is right, it's from our hips spreading and loosing up to let baby through.

@footprint‌ I've been experiencing a sharp pain in my lower right side of the belly.
This sounds just like RLP, which I've read is more common on the right side for some reason. :-/ It cn hurt a lot, but you'll learn to move more carefully. I get up from sitting and roll over in slow motion these days. A trick the nurse told me was to pull your legs into your chest, which will relive the pain quickly.

Pregnancy is not for the weak!!

  • Hey y'all! I have been outta town for the holidays and sick so i have been kinda AWOL. Sorry!

Any sore throat remidies out there? Mine hurts when i sleep.

Throat lozenges, hot tea with honey, gargling with salt water have all been my saving grace!
I had a nasty cold and when I woke up my throat felt like it was on fire so those all really helped me!
  • My OB said the same. ROUND LIGAMENT PAIN. thanks again ladies for your input @footprint‌ @shandorfml2‌ @pblge‌
