Early u/s question

Hi everyone.  I had my first u/s today.  Based on ET for IVF I am 6wks2d, but the measurement for today was 5wks5d.  My RE said this is well within the normal range, especially for IVF.  Otherwise the yolk sac, gestational sac, etc were all fine.  He wants me to come back in next week because he could not see a clear heartbeat.  He reassured me that this was all normal, but I am a little worried, is this that normal?

    You're not paranoid! I don't think I ever had an u/s where our baby measured to the exact day. In my MFM's practice, they always say plus/minus four days is normal. Sounds like you're doing great! And, fwiw, I've had friends whose baby's measurements have been off more than four days and everything was just fine. If your doctor isn't concerned, you should be able to relax. :)

    The ultrasounds the first couple of weeks are stressful!!  Being off by 4 days is not a very big variance and the HB is more often found in weeks 6-7, so I'd say there is no reason for concern, especially if you saw the yolk and gestational sac.  Congrats!!

    I know it's easier said than done, but try not to stress out.  6w2d is still early for heartbeats - I don't think we saw any until after 7w.  As far as the measurements, I think it might just be hard to take accurate measurements at this early stage.  I have seen a lot of people post that they were measuring behind, and they later catch up (or, maybe the measurements just get more accurate.

    If your doctor is not worried, that's a very good sign.  My doctors have always let me know immediately when they think something might be wrong.

    IVF cycle 1 - ER: 4/17 (28 follicles, 3 fertilized, 2 survived to day 3);
    ET: 4/20 (3rd day, 2 embryos - 1 @ 6 cells & 1 @ 4 cells); Beta 5/1 - BFP!; 
    1st scan 5/13 - development behind, no heartbeat detected; D&C 6/2; WTF 6/13
    IVF cycle 2 - BCP begun 7/12; stims w/ HGH begun 7/26; 
    ER: 8/6, 12 follicles, 7 fertilized w/ ICSI; ET: 8/11, 3 blastocysts left, 2 transferred, 3rd arrested 8/12 - none to freeze :'(
    1st beta 8/19 - BFP! 294; 2nd beta 8/26 - 4976; 1st u/s 9/2; 2nd u/s 9/9 - two little heartbeats at 140 each!!! 
    EDD: 29-April-2015
    Other Meds: Synthroid 100 mcg/daily

    It's pretty normal to feel that way when you've gone through a lot to achieve a pregnancy. The worry and anxiety never really goes away, but certain things get easier as you pass each milestone. Just like with IF treatments, take it a day and a step at a time. Hugs.

    My RE says those initial early measurement can vary by at least 5 days. They just aren't all that accurate when the little one is so very tiny. You will be amazed at the growth you will see when you go back again. Even though you 'should be 6w2d', you never know when the little one actually implanted. I think it's great that you see a yolk sac and soon you will see hat little heart flicker. It's the most stressful week or two I've ever had, so hang in there and stay positive!
    Me: 37, DH: 38: ttc 7 years, dx: unknown
    10/11: after 2 years, saw a RE, FSH 5.4
    11/11: BFP! (surprise after thyroid & normal hsg),
    12/11: missed m/c after 7 week u/s, 1/12: D&C
    6/12 IUI#1-IUI #3: clomid = BFP!, C/P
    IVF #1(10/12) FSH 5.4, AFC: 16 long Lupron, 5R/5M/4F, all 4 made it to 5dt, 1 blast/1-8 cell transferred=BFN
    IVF #2(12/12)AFC 21, MD lupron, 4R/4M/3F, 5dt of 1 blast and 2-8cell. BFN.
    IVF#3(4/13) Natural start antagon protocol, 12R,11F. one PGS normal at day 6 transfer. BFN.
    IVF#4 (11/13) C.CRM (ODW.U normal 8/13 Still no Diagnosis) EPP/antagonist. ER 13R/7M/6F. Only 1 made it to freeze. Abnormal. Looking into options of DE, Fresh vs frozen.
    10/14 new local RE to look into what's next. CD3 FSH 4.7, AMH 0.9. Met with DE agencies and exploring options for feb/march 2015.
    Surprise natural bfp (4 days before donor is signed). Beta #1 at 9dpo: 51.8, 2nd beta: 195 (25 hours doubling) @11dpo. 3rd beta (12/15): 516 (35 hrs doubling) 4th beta(12/17): 895 (58 hours doubling) 5th beta(12/19): 2120. U/S at 5w0d(12/22): one gestational sac with yolk sac. U/S #2 (6w0d)12/29. One little bean measuring 6w0d with HR 124. 3rd u/s(1/4)7w0d: baby measuring 7w2d. HR 134. 3/30: A/S at MFM went great except for low lying placenta. Verifi results are normal! Team Blue! Please send any positive thoughts our way! EDD:8/24/2015
    Baby Will born 8/18. He's perfect.

    I haven't measured "right" yet but I'm measuring consistently so I don't worry about that, I just worry about other things! As for heart beat we didn't see ours until week 7 either

    My RE does a 5 week scan to check for gestational sac and then doesn't do a scan to check for heartbeat until 7 weeks so that you don't stress if you don't see one earlier than that! So I would TRY not to worry and just keep busy!

    TOTALLY normal.  I got pregnant the old fashioned way, ovulated early, and I still measured 6 days behind at my first ultrasound.  Doctor explained that it can take up to 12 days to implant.  Plus on my second ultrasound, I had "caught up" 5 of those days I was behind.  

    You have nothing to worry about at this point!

    My RE said that they are more concerned with growth from one scan to the next than the actual measurement.  When I went to the regular OB, they said as long as it is within a week of what you should be they are happy.

    Off BC since Febuary 2006 3 Clomid Cycles in 2008- symptomatic, US just showed a tilted uterus, otherwise normal, HSG normal.  DH has an ejaculatory duct obstruction and a congenital absence of the vas deferens.  This is common with cystic fibrosis carriers, but he doesn't have cystic fibrosis. IVF #1 with TESE/ICSI (Antagonist protocol) Aug 2014=BFN (poor embryo quality)   IVF #2 ICSI long lupron protocol November 2014

IVF #2 (antagonist protocol) Feb 2014 => Converted to IUI (Perfect conditions). BFN. IVF #2.1 w/ new RE June 2014: Antagonist protocol. 33R, 31M, 30F, 19 blasts to test!!! I made it through without crashing!! :) Hats off to Dr. Fancypants!! ET of one 5AB blast. BFN. 13 10 CCS'ed snowflakes! FET #1 PUPO as of 7/29 Betas: 8/7@24, 8/9@97, 8/11@334 (etc.) Two sacs on 8/15, one seen on 8/18 after a bleed. U/s 8/25 (6+3) "perfect": 5.9 mm + HB@120bpm! U/s 9/4 (7+6): 15.9 mm + HB@172 bpm! Please, PLEASE stick this time!!!!

    Definitely sounds normal that early. It's great you were able to see the gestational sac and yolk sac.

    DH- 29, low count due to a chromosomal abnormality, only option is IVF/ICSI with PGD.

    IVF/ICSI #1 ER 9/14 - 14R, 6M, 6F, 5 blasts off to PGD- 1 normal female, 2 balanced males

    FET 12/8 of 2 frosties - 1 male/1 female - stick babies stick! 

    Beta #1 10dp5dt 444! Beta #2 14dp5dt 2,340!  U/S 1/5-- TWINS!!!  EDD 8/26/15

    I was measuring a few days behind at my first scan with DD.  I was freaking out about it (previous miscarriages made me even more paranoid).  My RE never mentioned the measurement until I did and she looked at me like I had 3 heads for being worried!  So, completely normal for measurements not to be spot on at this point!  Congratulations and a H&H 9 months!

    appointment with MFM 1/5.  Looks like this is really happening!
