TTC After a Loss

••TTCAL Newbie Check-in 1/5/15••

**Incase you missed the PSA on the main board**

-Please PM me if you get a bfp. It is the polite thing to do, and that saves me from having to run around looking to see if you're KU so I don't include you on next weeks check-in. It also gives me the chance to properly announce it on the check-in so that we can all be happy with/for you-

Welcome to TTC After Loss. I'm so sorry for your loss but am happy you have found us. ((hugs)) This board is full of brilliant and kind women who have experienced the hardship of losing that which is most precious, and I hope you find great comfort and support here in your journey!

For those of you so new that you don't know the routine, this is a check-in for newer members of the TTCAL Board. It will be posted every Monday. Please feel free to use this space to ask those "newbie" questions that feel intimidating to ask on the main board and I will try my best to get you an answer. You have up to 48 hours to respond to the check-in. If you miss this time frame, please do not bump up the check-in, just PM me and I will include you for next week.

As of 12/8/14 there is now a ONE MONTH time limit for being part of the check-in. If you have been here for more than 4 check-ins please let me know, and I will not include you in the following weeks post.

**Please don't feel that you have to provide individual feedback to all of the posters ahead of you. Many do and it's great, but it's most definitely not required to be a part of this check-in. I'd just hate to think people might feel intimidated and not post because of this. All posts and responses are welcomed!**

Please take the time to read the TTCAL blog to answer any questions you may have regarding our board etiquette, TTC, miscarriage & loss, and much more: https://ttcalblog.wordpress.com/ If you are a check-in regular and get a BFP, please PM me so that I can add it to the weekly check-in with a warning for other members. If I don't get a PM, I will not mention your BFP on the check-in.

Finally, if you haven't done so, please post your introduction on the main board including your story. Everyone wants to get to know you. This a community; We give support to get support. Join in!

***If you do not see your name, it’s because you didn’t check in last week, just join in this week and I’ll add you!***

Weekly Update:  How are you doing?  Post an update including any news, thoughts, or questions - let me know how things are going for you! If you don’t see your name, it’s only because you didn’t check in last week. Feel free to join in this week!

Individual Updates:

@CC1017— This is your last check in. Give us a final update on everything!

@Rcvb22—This is your last check in. Give us a final update on you.

@mholmes92- Hows NTNP going? Did you decide to keep temping anyway?

@NOBB14- How is everything looking over there? I know you said that you had some well timed lovin! Did you end up purchasing a BBT/opks?

@Nicnackmama-Didn't see you last week, hope all is well.

@imnotfancy-Any confirmation of O?

@danddb925-- How are you this week? Have you considered seeing an RE? I know some take patients after 2 losses. ((hugs))

@Littleducky--Any news on the genetic results you were waiting for? Are you seeing an RE? Maybe it might be a good idea to check into one?

@brendisimma--Haven't seen you around much. It would be a great idea for you to intro on the main board so that everyone can get to know you. Just tell us your story. There is a lot of support here!

rslh10!  I go for my post-D&C follow up appointment on Thursday, so I'm hoping that the results from the genetic testing will be in, although I'm not counting on it.  My OB said it could be "a few weeks" and it will be two weeks tomorrow since my D&C.  My follow up is not with my regular OB, but with a different OB from the same group who actually did the D&C (my OB's hospital day that week was Christmas so they weren't doing any outpatient procedures).  I plan to talk to both the OB who did the D&C and my main OB about next steps.

I also went ahead and made an appointment with an RE for January 19.  I haven't talked to my OB about that yet, but this RE group comes highly recommended and when I called them, they said that after two first trimester missed miscarriages in a row, it was an appropriate time to schedule an initial appointment with one of the REs.  I feel a little weird about it because I sort of feel like I'm cheating on my OB, making an appointment with and RE instead of talking to her first.  But maybe I'm just a weirdo about that.

In the meantime, I broke my toe yesterday so that is my current distraction from all things TTCAL related.  I went to urgent care yesterday morning and I am going to see an orthopedist sometime between 4:30 and 7:30pm today (they have walk in hours).

    Thanks, @rslh10‌

@LittleDucky‌ I would have done the same thing regarding an RE, if it were me. Hopefully your OB will support your decision too (I don't see why they wouldn't).

AFM, no O. But my chart had a really cool, almost symmetrical, temp line going there for a while!

It's been 4 weeks and 3 days since my D&C. I had some intense cramping yesterday and thought AF was coming. I had to take IBP and Midol AND use a heating pad because the cramping was so bad. After half a day of this, I had some bright red spotting after a BM (I usually start AF with some awesome diahhrea *eye roll*). But I haven't had anything since. I'm used to AF showing up with a vengeance (heavy flow for 2-3 days before tapering off).
So, no more cramping and no more spotting or flow since that once episode yesterday. Confused?

I know it's just a waiting game and I have to be patient. Anything can happen over the next few days. I was just so excited yesterday when I think AF had come. Now I'm just bummed again.

Also, for some fun info... DH lost all privileges of condom-less sex. He SAID he would withdrawal... And he did the first few times but then he screwed up. Good thing it looks think AF *might* come without ovulating first. If I get KU while we are supposed to be TTA, he can sleep with the dogs for the whole first trimester. His penis is officially Saran wrapped for the next month. Can't trust those guys! [-(

ETA: QOTW: nothing... I seriously can't think of a single thing right now. I'll continue trying to think of something and add if I can come up with something. I must really be a humbug right now.

  • I forgot to include my thing that I am looking forward to in 2015.  We were invited to a wedding in Portland, OR in July that we were not going to be able to attend since I was due in July, but now we will be going.  DH and I both love the Pacific Northwest and we are going to combine this wedding with a visit to some college friends outside of Seattle who we haven't seen in years.

Of course, I'd rather we not be able to go at all since I'd rather be home with a newborn in July, but still, the trip is something I am looking forward to nonetheless.

Bad husband! He's gotta be on board with TTA for YOUR health! I looked at your chart, and your temp did drop nicely, so hopefully she shows up pretty soon for you!

  • Hi @rslh10, thanks for the checkin! I love your siggy challenge gif! It makes me smile every time I see it.

We've actually been seeing an RE since last January. I was able to have my saline sonogram on Friday, which revealed a uterus that "looked great" according to my RE. DH isn't on board with doing an IUI since that won't guarantee a healthy pregnancy, so we're back to trying naturally. If nothing happens by the spring, we'll do IVF with PGD. Luckily, our insurance has a lifetime infertility max (assuming DH is still at the same company in April/May). AF came yesterday so it's back to tracking and to oh soooo fun TI.

@littleducky, I'm sorry about your toe, but really glad you made an appointment with an RE!

@imnotfancy, your comments about your husband were too funny! But I'm getting nasty pictures in my head of saran wrap haha!

As for what I'm looking forward to the most, I told DH if no baby by the end of the year, we're doing a Europe trip for our 5 year anniversary, no questions.

  • Thank you @rslh10. I did an intro Friday, so I'm jumping in with both feet here.  I am currently waiting to miscarry right now.  My first dose of medicine didn't work so I am hoping a 2nd one will do it as I don't want to have to do a D&C.  If the 2nd dose doesn't work, I'm hoping my doctor will let me wait for nature to take its course.

This year I am anxiously awaiting summer vacation.  First day back without kids and I am already dreaming about summer break.

    My questions:

    1. A check in from earlier in the week got bumped up for a really awful reason.  I saw it and did an intro so I could be added to the check in forgetting that it would keep it bumped up.  I feel really awful as it may have hurt some ladies.  Can I just apologize at the next check in?

    2.  There are a lot of check ins and you guys do an amazing job of keeping up with everything.  I have 2 losses so should I just do the multiple loss check in, a check in for each loss month, or check in at all 3?  Also, should I wait until I miscarry to check in for that month?  I know you guys have a lot to keep up with and I don't want to seem AWish.

I'm sorry, I should have known that an OB wouldn't normally run all those tests on you out the gate! Sorry about that. I'm glad to hear that you have a plan in place. I have fx for you that you don't have to move to IVF, But thank goodness you have IF coverage.

First off ((hugs)) to you! I'm keeping my FX for you that the medicine works, and you don't need a d&c. As for your questions, If you posted an intro and its bumped up--just leave it there and let it fall. When the new one is posted you could join in and just apologize for bumping it. It happens, honestly. I don't know what exactly happened in that check in, but I have a good idea.

As for checking in on multiple check-ins, it's up to you. There are ladies who participate in all of them, or none of them. It's absolutely up to you. This check in you are only allowed to be a part of for 4 weeks. If it was me in your position, I would probably join the multiple loss check in that way "all your bases were covered". It's very hard to check in on multiple check ins. I run this, and check in on the January board. Sometimes it's too much for me with just that! So do what is right for you :)

Sorry for being so long winded! :D

  • Thanks for the check in @rslh10‌!

I am thinking we did "get it in" over the span of a good window, thanks to my starting to use OPKs- I think I ovulated on a day I otherwise wouldn't have known about! Here's to hoping. I guess this puts me in the TWW, but i don't want to drive myself crazy so I'm trying not to think too much about it. I also officially starting temping this morning, so even if AF comes this time I'll be in a better place to try again next month.

I'm kind of bummed about so many well loved TTCAL's leaving/taking a break lately. I get their frustration, I just really valued their input and it's sad to see so many ladies need to step away (although I totally understand why.) I also hate to admit it, but I'm crazy jealous of all the ladies who have graduated to PGAL. I just want it to be my turn! I'm so so happy that they're moving forward in their journey, but I'm starting to wonder if my lurking over there is doing me more harm than good...

I've been catching a cold and my eyes are super watery from the sniffles, so I'll have to touch base with the rest of you ladies once I get some mucinex in me! Hope you're all doing well!! Xoxo

  • LittleDucky mentioned a wedding and at first I thought "of, course! My BFF is getting married in June and I should be looking forward to that!" But then I remembered that she is an only child and I'm her Matron of Honor and she already asked me to throw both her bachelorette party and bridal shower.

She has no idea about wedding etiquette and really needs to be directed to The Knot message boards so she can learn that she is not supposed to expect and ask me to do all this stuff. But I'm too afraid of conflict with her that I will not be the one to tell her and I will just suck it up and do it. Of course I'm going to ask her mom, FMIL, and FSIL to help. She doesn't have any other "good" friends that would throw her one anyways...

So maybe what I'm looking forward to is for her wedding to be over with? Haha!

  • I'm sorry I have been AWOL lately. I have been lurking and love-titting. My personal life has taken a major twist and I am no longer TTC. I'd still love to hang around and give support, but I felt I should first apologize for my absence and then check-in to see if that is ok, or no. @rslh10‌ thank you for running this check-in and I'm sorry I haven't pmed you.

  • LittleDucky - I'm sorry about your toe!!! Ouch! At least now you have a good reason to snuggle up on the couch and watch your favorite guilty pleasure TV show??

@imnotfancy - FX that AF shows up soon! I know how awful the wait can be! You had me literally laughing out loud at my desk reading about your husband and his recent loss of privileges :) Boys will be boys I guess.... Also, I'm sorry about your bride-friend! That can be a tough (and expensive!) situation to navigate. I would pull as much help from the mom, MIL, and SIL as possible. IDK if her family was planning to throw a shower, but maybe you could combine it into one big shower instead?

lcwed - I'm sorry your body is not cooperating. Hopefully the medicine will kick in soon so that you can start moving forward. I'm right there with you about summer vacation! Today was my first day back with students and I'm drained!

@NOBB14 - sorry to hear that you're coming down with a cold! Hopefully it passes quickly and you feel better soon! I must say I admire your positive attitude about the TWW - I could learn from you!

rslh10! To answer your question, yes I work at a school (I'm an elementary school counselor) and today was our first day back after a glorious 2 week break.

I am 7dpo I think (I have dotted crosshairs on FF, so who knows?!). I have no symptoms what so ever and my hopes are not high. I am feeling extra bummed today due to a student situation. Without giving away too many details, I have a student who is currently in foster care along with his 4 younger siblings. Mom just signed away all parental rights and if social services can't find a family member to place them with in the next 2-3 months, the siblings will be split up and put up for adoption. It's just so frustrating that this lady can have 5 kids under the age of 7 who she doesn't even want, meanwhile each of us would kill to have just one. I try to remain nonjudgmental, but come on!? Not that it is ever easy, but dealing with cases of child abuse/neglect is even harder when looking through an MC/infertility lens. These sweet kiddos don't deserve this. Ok - rant over :(

Thanks girls! Hope you all have a great week!

Thanks for the check in @rslh10‌! Xoxo
I'm glad you're using OPKs! Heres hoping your timing works out :)

It's normal to feel those emotions. If your lurking is making you stressed, it is best to stop. If I have a bad day, I don't lurk.

Hi love! I have missed you. I am not sure what is going on, but so many ((hugs)) to you!!! I'm going to shoot you a PM, and we can discuss this a little bit more if you don't mind?

What an awful situation. I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope that they find somewhere to place those children.

  • @laurenleigh17‌ thanks for the advice! She wants a co-Ed shower so it will be a little bigger than just her closest family/friends. And since that means inviting a lot of the grooms family, I feel I will get a lot of help from MIL, both with planning and financially... At least that's what I'm hoping for! FX

Update: AF arrived yesterday evening! I didn't know that temp drop meant anything significant but it makes sense that it would drop if my hormones are getting back into balance. Woohoo!

  • @Imnotfancy I have a husband like that! That's actually how I got pregnant with Grace. They don't have as much control as they like to think they do!

    AFM:

I had a shitty appointment with the MFM doctor. The first thing she said to me was "So how many weeks pregnant are you" and I just felt like I got slapped in the face (and wanted to slap her in the face in return). She told me my loss is a risk of pregnancy with a bicornuate uterus and she wouldn't recommend anything for me.

I had a long talk with my OB today. After reviewing the MFM report, my L&D report, and my ER reports, my OB thinks that my loss was likely related to the placenta not attaching correctly (she said there was also the possibility of infection, but she needs to get the placenta pathology report back). She said it could be related to the shape of my uterus, and if that's the case, there's not much they can do to prevent it from happening again (same with if it was an infection).  She gave me a plan for next time - ultrasounds at 8,12,16 (cervical length check), and 20 weeks and then additional ultrasounds and cervical checks as necessary.

In terms of things to look forward to, well, I just don't feel I'm at that point yet, especially with my dog being sick.

  • anarossi01, they taped the broken toe to the toe next to it and put me in a special post-surgical shoe, so I can bear weight increasingly as I can tolerate it.

Since I posted last time, I did get the results from the pathology from my D&C, which I posted about in a separate thread.  Turns out it was a partial molar pregnancy.  My OB said I'm benched for six months, but I want to talk to her more about it when I go for my follow up tomorrow, since I know some other ladies with PMPs only had to wait three months.  So we will see.  Link to other thread is here.

  • @rslh10 New Year, no fear... so I'm jumping feet-first into TTCAL. Starting to come out of lurking/hiding and would like to be added to the newbie check-in.

As of this past Monday, it's been 4 weeks since I delivered. Trying to be patient, waiting for AF to return. Had some postpartum bloodwork done this week and am anxiously awaiting the results of a gene mutation test that could affect our TTC. Fx that it's not an issue.

In the meantime, a bazillion WondFos should be arriving at my door tomorrow. DH thinks I'm a little nuts but I love data and can't wait to start charting!

@LittleDucky Yikes, sorry about the broken toe! I've always wondered - do you get a cast/splint for a broken toe? Hope you're not in pain and that it heals quickly.

    @imnotfancy hooray for AF!

QOTW: Oof, outside of TTGP? Hmm.. maybe paying off my student loans? I know, it's exciting stuff.

Welcome to the check in. I'm sorry for your loss. Im mobile so I can't see your history right now, have you posted an intro on the main board? If not, I encourage you to :) If you already have I apologize!

FX for good bloodwork result. I love getting massive packs of wondfos so I can relate ;)

  • Hey there! I haven't posted an intro yet, I've seen a ton of them recently and have tried not to add to the masses. I can give a quick rundown of why I'm here tho-
I just had my second loss. My first was almost exactly a year ago. We've been TTC since Aug. 2013. I see an RE and have unexplained infertility. I got this last BFP the week before we started clomid. But alas, I had my D&C today and I'm hoping for a speedy recovery. They didn't scrape my lining so the RE said we wouldn't have to TTA. I'm supposedly going for a follow up soon- will schedule tomorrow- and can get a better idea of where we go from now.

This year my resolution is to reduce stress so I'm looking into a new job and I've started my own at-home business that I want to work on. And I really want to go to an amusement park this year- I've been putting it off for various reasons. So yeah...kinda weird goals but I'm hoping 2015 is better than 2014. :)

    Thanks!

IUD out 8/29/13 and TTC since then.
    BFP 12/29/13
Bleeding 1/17/14 with LO showing 10 days smaller.
    NMC 1/26/14

Continued trying every month. Began seeing RE 7/2014.

12/2/14 got first Rx for Clomid for following cycle.
    12/3/14 BFP!!!
No heartbeat at 8w4d. D&C scheduled for Jan 7, 14

  • Hi there! I just did my intro yesterday and figured I'd join the check-in. Wednesday is the cut-off right? If it was earlier I'm sorry. I miscarried 4 weeks ago with a blighted ovum. My DH and I started TTC once the bleeding stopped, but I've been cramping like I'm going to start AF today. I'm anxious and ambivalent about my future pregnancy. It still hasn't fully hit me. I have my good days and bad days. I have my first follow-up appointment since my natural miscarriage tomorrow.

This year I'm looking forward to living in the moment. I just got married in November, so I'm going to focus on getting used to the married life.

    Thanks for this check-in!
  • @CC1017‌ hugs, lady. As a fellow saint owner my husband and I think of you often and am so sorry about the diagnosis. There's just no getting used to news like that. Loved the pic of your pup enjoying that big ol' bone last week, though. Best bucket list ever! You're a great mamabear. xoxo
