Help me--not urgent

First I want to give huge hugs to all the mommas going through some difficult situations! Hope you all get answers you need or your LOs get to feeling better or back to regular sleep patterns.

Now, please recommend your LOs favorite straw sippy, the one that worked best for them, or the one you found the best to get them to use a straw.
I have been working with LO for a few weeks on a straw and he gets it down with me holding the straw with liquid inside. Once I put it in the drink he just looks at me. (Using a straw I would use).
GMIL (which raised DH so she's just like a mil) keeps buying all these straw sippy cups saying LO should be able to drink out of it (because it has age 4 months or 6 months on the package). He hasn't yet and I try it to see what's wrong with the straw and I can't even suck out of the straw. I try to tell her and she gets kinda mad and says well if we give it to him and that's all he's got to drink he will learn eventually.
@-) uhh excuse me no.

tl;dr recommend your LOs straw sippy before I lose my mind because of know it all GMIL.

Re: Help me--not urgent

  • @TyrannosaurusLex‌ yes I seen those when she bought him the last straw sippy. I suggested if she was going to buy one to buy those and she wouldn't because they said 18 months. I'd rather him learn to drink from a straw and me have to clean a mess from time to time, then her keep buying ones he can't use.

@squirm‌ I have not seen these, next time I make a trip to the store I will look to see if they carry them.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks @djtippietoes‌, that would help because LO doesn't try enough to suck out of the straw once it's in the cup because the liquid isn't touching his tongue anymore.
  • Lollacup worked for DS. It's similar to zolicup mad doesn't have a valve so it's for LO to drink.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

    Mom to Lily and Colin!
  • @greenbunny79‌ I believe the last one GMIL bought was a Nuby one. It had a weight like thing attached to the bottom of the straw. We even took that thing off and I still could barely get any out. I think you had to bite the straw of that one too.

Thanks @broccolisgirl‌ , @innanni‌ , @inluv4life2‌ , @Caer‌ , I have not heard of most of these but will definitely be checking them out.
  • @carleys‌ yes I seen that in the ransoms. Your post plus me being totally annoyed with GMIL is what motivated this discussion. But thank you!

@JoyBaby5‌ thank you. So far those seem to be the best for him to get the idea of drinking with a straw while it's in the cup. Then I'll go to the spill proof ones or others everyone has suggested.
  • @squirm‌ and anyone else who has the Nuby: Quick t/j, we just got it, but when I screw the top on, the straw lines up with the handles -- ie it's not perpendicular to them so LO can hold the handles and drink at the same time. What am I missing? Did I get a dud?
